The more ya'll talk the more I feel as if we was to send Somber a gift of sunshine and rainbows and everything else to make him happy he'd get depressed about how he doesn't deserve it.

Well then it looks like we'll have to beat the happy into him. [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion - Page 23 3932362616 and if that doesn't work, then... Well I don't know what then. We could tickle him.

@Houston Discussion:

I vote for Hockston, named after the great earth pony brewer and distiller, Sam Hock.

QUEEN WHISKEY HAS FOUND HER CAPITOL! FROM IT SHE SHALL SPREAD FORTH AN ARMY TO CLEANSE THE WASTES IN A DELUGE OF FOAMY, ETHANOL-BASED RIGHTEOUSNESS. I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE, AND IT IS GOOD. But sticky. And it leaves you feeling pretty terrible in the morning.

Beer! I swear I'm still talking about beer!

(On a related note, I live within walking distance of Highway 59. I had no clue there were so many Project Horizons fans nearby!)

@Blackjack doll:

Awwww! Do want! I will put it in my secret box of stuffed animals SECRET STASH OF PORN.... PORN AND, UH, WHISKEY AND RAW STEAKS AND BEARDS AND FLEXING AND OTHER MANLY STUFF.

@RUINED BY QUALITY FANFIC

Eh. I try to only read quality fic in the first place. I spend a lot of my (increasingly dwindling) spare time reading actual, honest to god Literature. Mostly fiction, and stuff that would get me laughed out of any self respecting college symposium, but still, quality work. Funny, though. I was reading some pulp fantasy schlock the other day, just for the hell of it. It was by a moderately well known author, and I was surprised at how... dull it seemed (especially since his sci-fi/detective novels were so great). This man's published! He's sold movie rights to Hollywood for who knows how much money! How did he get away with something so mediocre? (Even if I do like the social rights undercurrent he wormed passed the editors, there's no excuse for lazy characterization.)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's unfair that Somber has created something that's at least as good as popular mass media hyped books these days, but thanks to legal bullshit (and the fact that PH would probably only appeal to bronies that love sci-fi/cosmic horror stuff and have played every game in the Fallout Series, AND have read Fo:E) he's not getting million dollar Hollywood movie rights buyouts.

Wait. What if we convinced Hasbro and Bethesda to join together in a massive corporate undertaking to-

I'm gonna give you a pass because of sleep derprivation, but there's an unmeasured large number of readers of FoE and spinoffs that haven't even played Fallout at all. I personally knew a little about the game, enough to determine that it's a videogame that I'm not willing to pay full price for, but the real qualification to enjoy FoE is being a Brony and enjoying reading post-apocalyptic fiction.

@Kipper
When I'm putting faces to online handles, I generally imagine most people on the internet are good-looking in a normal people way, Somber included. I like to imagine that Somber the Pony lives in Ponyville and has adventures and things... I'm not sure if this needs to become a story someone writes or not. (Also, Twin Peaks crossover. Just. Saying.)

@Somber
Making people have higher standards is a good thing, Somber! :)

@The Doll
I don't have stuffed animals anymore (used to have a dog, but he fell apart after being used too much as a pillow) but oh my goodness!

@Noodle
Nice work on Part 2 of the Stygius/Blackjack/Glory comic - the ending totally killed me (I am typing this from hell).

@Moodyman
Hugs and unwavering support worked for Blackjack early on!

Oh man, that reminds me of more stuff I noticed while re-reading... Pinkie Pie mentions "four star ponies" (and called them "bad") in her message to the Cakes. Who were targeted by a hit squad during the apocalypse. So, yeah - that's a thing! Also, I think Quartz might be the OIA representative assigned to the MoM (if you'll recall the theory that all those gemstone-named ponies are OIA agents, each with a specific ministry to attend to, which I'm liking more and more), since Pinkie talks about her, too. She, too, is a bad pony. Man, Pinkie hasn't appeared much recently, but good lord is does she say some scary stuff.

Also: am I the only one who gets a slight mental shiver every time they show coal being used in MLPFIM?

@Quotidian (re: Bethesda and Hasbro super megacorp team up squad go!)
This, for the record, is one of my various "never-gonna-happen-but-if-you-can-make-it-happen-do-so" goals in life.
Rainbow It would be so awesome.

@Derpmind
For the record, I've played FO, FO2, FO3, and FONV (only having beaten FO3, 'cos I impulsively start new characters in FONV despite not liking the beginning of it very much, and because I like turn-based RPGs but suck at them), but I had only played FO3 when I started reading FOE and still hadn't picked up FONV when I started FOEPH.

Really? Why? Fallout and Fallout 2 are only six dollars each on GoG, if that helps.

Hunt for promotions.
I got Fallout 1 for free on GoG promotion.
Fallout 3 GOTY and Fallout: New Vegas for €10 each on Steam. (I pirated the DLC for FoNV)
Fallout Tactics for like $2 on a flea market. It came bundled with Fallout 1 (but the GoG version will run on modern computers).
I still don't have Fallout 2.

...still, before FoE I only played Fallout 1 for a while... like 2 days, not far from Necropolis. Currently playing NV, just finished Old World Blues.

*sighs deeply* I'm really sorry, Somber. I tried to get this finished as soon as I could... I wanted to say "a cursed commentary for a cursed chapter" but in reality, I've just been biting off far more than I should be trying to manage at once...
Thank you so much for writing this story, Somber. *hugs*

Anyways, here's my commentary, I'm going to go pass out now and hope I can work on some drawings tomorrow...

I got Fallout 3 GOTY for the PC for 20 bucks, even though I own it for the Xbox(bought for 50 way back when) with all the DLCs and never played it, and FO1 for free. I also have NV for Xbox, full price, with all DLCs. Fallout 2 has been called 'Fallout 1's retarded little brother' because of inherent flaws, while 3 has been called the 'genius of the family'.
For anyone who hasn't played any of them, at least try Fallout 3, it was the best IMO. You can pirate it. And if you like a more medieval setting, try Oblivion, Morrowind, or Skyrim.

Until last year the Fallout games where always something I heard about but never played. Then around late November a friend convinced me to get New Vegas. If it wasn't for college and the little bit of farm word we needed to do around that time of year, I probably wouldn't have left my room. And for the most part it was like I never did. Whole month of December was spent on that game. Near the end of the month I started getting the DLC and after the first of the year the same friend from before talked me into getting Fallout 3 GOTY.

I can't really say which one I like more other then I played New Vegas for nearly a month straight and I'm still playing it now (beat it twice and on a third playthrough just to go through the DLC again), while Fallout 3 I've only just got through the main game and I still have a ton of missions and a few more of the DLC to go through.

And naturally I haven't touched any of the other Fallout games yet, but I've done my research and know of the plot and the major canon events. And it's only because of the fact I played New Vegas and was playing 3 at the time that I decided to give Fallout: Equestira a chance, other then how TV Tropes said it "Broke the rating scale"

Well...erm...I played in Fo2, Fo3 and FoNV...didn't bought any of this...got Fo1 for free from GoG, but didn't play yet. In my opinion - FoNV >> Fo3. Can't compere Fo1,2 to Fo3 or NV...I've played really long ago in Fo2.

But yeah, you definitely don't need to have played any fallout games to enjoy it. Being a bring helps you get over them being ponies, but having played fallout just helps you recognize imported locations and occasionally know what's going to happen next as a result.
You know, I don't believe I've ever predicted a series of events due to experience playing the games, other than Arbu's story, which is parallel to the settlement Andale in Fallout 3, what with the secret cannibalism and the "perfect life" outer layer, down to the "crazy old man". Being interested in Fallout got me into ponies after my friend said FOE existed, so I read 20 chapters and found I had little knowledge other than the basics of ponies, thusly, I watched the series through after intending to watch a little.

More importantly, knowing the games opens a whole layer of experiences, when you recognize things ported from the games, references, similarities, opposites. And puns of course. I LOLd when I realized Tenpony is Tenpenny.

Cazadorables?
Alicorns instead of supermutants?
Fillydelphia as The Pitt?

Interestingly, FoE is far deeper than the games. Example: the aforementioned Andale, a small town, overly friendly, you find out they are cannibals, there's the crazy old guy, you confront them, the guy takes care of the kids. The end. Confront with the trio of bandits-Arbu-Steel Rangers, the backstory of two coffee shops, the aligator retreat, the old guy being affected by "Night Person" perk, the drama of LittlePip going Rampage...

You're not alone.
And if you saw; the day after I cursed Somber because it was stuck in my head while I was dreaming, all I could see was her getting fucked and loving every moment.

Never heard that. If it had been described as poor, I wouldn't be looking forward to trying it. I've heard FO2 described as 'The Best of it's Time and the Time After It' and FO1 as 'The Game Before Fallout 2'. What's so bad about it?

Beyond just the homages with sprinkles (like Arbu), KKat made a lot of mixed references that were honestly fun to decipher. The most obvious one would be Red Eye, mish-mashing not only Lord Ashur's work ethic and President Eden's position and resources as Big Bad but even a little bit of one of The Master's henchman in FO1 (or so I'm told, I haven't made it that far in the game yet). It's also hard to forget about how she twisted the Outcast story from FO3 (and in a way that actually made more sense than the actual game!). These are just the obvious examples, there are bits scattered throughout the stories.
Lastly, a little nerdy side note: Granpa Rattle didn't have the Night Person perk, he had the Night Person trait. The trait version gives you the boost during the night time, but also gives you additional penalties in the night. Obscure Trivia! (Purely fanon, by the way)

FO3's greatest value was in paving the way for FO:NV - which was given
to Obsidian (the company which has people who worked on FO1-2 in it) to
develop, which was the best decision in Bethesda's entire history; and
for Fallout: Equestria.

Fallout 3 was the best IMO.

Study this chart.
Yeah, it is exaggerated in places (it's probably from somethingawful), but... just look at the producer quotes.

I like FoNV a little better than FO3. If FO3 had fleshed out some factions just a little bit more, I would prefer it. As is, it feels like you can wander anywhere, but if you want some real story, you HAVE to follow the thread where you HAVE to oppose the enclave because they're so over the top evil. It's a similar problem I have with the Legion. No matter what perks are given them, like making the roads safer, they're so over the top wicked that you oppose them... unlike the NCR where you can help them but still take over Vegas at the end.

I would love to work on FO4. I'd love to set it in the deep south, like Atlanta. I think graphics today would have a field day with a FEV infested swampland as you are tasked to retrieve a new and even more potent strain of FEV virus located in the CDC.

Um... 9 hours' walking distance is pretty damn close. It's not just around the corner, but it's still only a matter of 20 or 30 miles.

If it was less than a day, ya it could fairly close, if it was at least a day or two she was gone, than it could be a fair distance. All we know is that she was gone for less than a week. I hope that made some sense.
She didn't seem worried about packing supplies for the trip, and Spike called it "the best night's sleep I've had in weeks", implying she was only gone one night.

I liked FONV much less than FO3. FO3 has a great story arc and a very heroic main quest, while NV just kinda derps around the Mojave and gives you the choice of who you want to control Hoover Dam. There's no sense of building something greater from the ruins of the past, you're just deciding who ends up in charge. Plus, the whole things starts out as kind of a "but thou must" situation. So I got shot in the head and the package I was going to deliver was stolen. Why should I bust my ass to get it back? Revenge? Because the guys I work for will make me pay for it otherwise?! (How many caps do you want for it? I've got like 20,000 I'm not even using.) Weak. My character has no pressing reason to follow the quest. Did Mr. House say "would you kindly" when I wasn't listening?

In any case, I have certain objections to the whole setup in NV. It doesn't feel so much like Fallout to me when you're starting out in between two organized and distant superpowers. It's fine as a game, but it lacks that feeling of wild desolation that pervaded the previous games.

So back to the old issue of who Fluttershy impregnated Marigold with. While reading this chapter, somehow I got the random musing in my head "What if it was Psalm?" That's obviously not true, but I realized that I didn't know why off the top of my head. It's been so long I've forgotten many of the details. So back I went to chapter 20 to read that memory orb again, and I have to ask: Are there any reasons mentioned previously why it couldn't have been Rarity? I don't quite remember the previous dozen discussions about all this. Fluttershy does say that she doesn't think the mysterious mare is terrible anymore, and they have some big secrets that they share with each other. We know that Fluttershy and Rarity had a falling out at some point. To me, the dialog only seems to be stuff that Rarity or Twilight would say, and I'm not so sure that Twilight and Fluttershy did anything more than stop being with each other.

Anyways, new not-evidence: Blackjack had only to touch the shield with her cyberpony hoof to get through, and we know that Twilight's door didn't open to Blackjack's hoof. It's still possible that Twilight is Blackjack's ancestor, and her door requires more effort to open than just touching it.

Because I like Luna too much: No matter who's foal it was, the fact remains that Marigold was pregnant while on the Moon. Intentional conspiracy or strange circumstance, there's no way the Moon didn't affect Tarot. And while the Sun may seem more powerful than the Moon, it's the Moon that has the stronger connection to the innumerable Stars.

And that's assuming the test wasn't rigged to prevent the Twilight Society from getting their hooves on the master key to every secret in the tower -- or from preventing said key getting back to her good work in Hoofington.

Semi-random, (yay, another ramble, seems like most of what I'm good at... or at least does often) but I just recalled a technical mistake in the latest chapter: BJ stated she was going for "round four", she had semi-barely just passed round one however. As she mentioned she just came at the third of his orgasms. (which is understandable with lack of expertise and with, from understanding, using the least effective of the 3 direct types of stimulation) But in either case, if she meant a "round" as "have sex, then stop and rest for a while", then it makes sense. But not as her erection would die down in between each of them, unless tended to, same with the tension/pressure. And if we go with her stable logic, and if it was a "short breaks to avoid the afterglow(?) to hurt when moving, it would be their second round starting. Since 99 logic would only care for the mare in theory. So for them to count the male's pleasure in sex would seem rather strange as they are there for their amusement. Would be a bit like counting a female's orgasms in our world as "rounds", or however that system works. But yeah, just pointing it out there that it's too much "our mentality" applied to it, at least imo. Since well, as said, bucks in 99 was more or less sex toys and breeding equipment, to have the sex revolve and focus around them seems stupid in perspective. Personally myself use the "when stopping to recover for a longer time" as the end of a "round". Counting orgasms would be "loads"... even though I technically only make one of those with g-spot stimuli, but now I can sense a trailing off here, so lets leave it at that xD

On a side note, still can't help but to mumble how most of the "needed to" and "drama" could easily have been avoided, or at least more smooth/balance by just a simple change, but whatever, won't happen.

@Sindri: (Golden) As said, he as like, 7 WoD ranks in "right time at the right place" (can't recall if that is from WoD, but w/e) and has a leverage or knows the secret of about anyone. And if I recall it, his unlimited resources.

And why would I need a shirt? It's warm outside, nice weather for a stroll. Some sleep+food seems to have helped somewhat though.

@Snipe: While that is awesomecakes, where is her cutie mark? Oh wait, filly BJ? :P Or wait, wouldn't make sense for the pipbuck then... I think.. augh! Ignore my rambling, cute plush though ^^

@Kipper: (Somber) Personally, being pansexual, and caring very little for it overall, I haven't even made a mental guess for how any you look actually, it's just something my mind skips. I almost solely base my opinion about someone depending on their personality. There' s a few physical traits that would peak my interest, but it'd have to be damn near identical in personality to have them decide for me xP

@Everypony: (Attributes) I'd say I got very high in dex and int... or wis... or good in both. Actually, I think both varies depending on the situation, or that I just got severe penalties on some things xD ... if I just had a few more points in Dex, I could reach... so close to it ;P

@Robo+Jermy: (bad person) You know what my first though was when I saw a picture of MLP toy on ponibooru some guy had... *ahem* desecrated? (for lack of a better word)
"Hum... people do never really cease to amaze me... someone should make a female version of this... shame I don't have any of the toys, could have made it for them." Then shortly afterwards caught myself and kicked that thought away, replacing it with five doses of gecko licking it's eyeballs on my shoulder.

@Kipper+Rum ("cloppy parts") I can state I was quite flaccid all throughout it all. Way to blunt(?), emotionless and focused on him. Her effort was basically to avoid doing anything but laying still like a sack of flour. Had one or two sentences that could have sparked something, but eh... was just so dry and focus was elsewhere.

@Derp: (Hoof) Tbh, I mainly saw it as "not her hoof", as it was a mechanical one. Had she used her mouth, then perhaps... or that is also mostly synthetic isn't it? Point being, I don't think it was made to react to "attached" components. Eh, if her lips turn out to be synthetic, she still has her other pair xD

Careful, we don't want to start a Fallout generation war here. The fact is that every Fallout game has been full of bugs at release; for all the reputation it's gotten I think that NV is the smoothest of them all at this point just because it actually got properly patched, but all of them have had inherent flaws. In my opinion, F3 had slightly lower quality writing than the other three, and the Wasteland felt... emptier (no major settlements, fewer side quests, very small fraction of the npcs are actual characters). But it's a damn good game, and has a special place for me as my first Fallout game. It's just hard going back to that after the others and noticing how much less stuff there is. New Vegas is my favorite, because they took the lessons they got from 3 to balance things and fix several of the old problems, and then they brought back the kind of writing and level of detail that the first two games had, but I know a lot of people object to it because it has too much civilization, and doesn't feel like an apocalypse anymore (and others hate it instinctively because it's 3d real time instead of isometric turn-based). The second game is mechanically almost identical to the first, and it's easy to break things if you get power armor right at the start (in the old games wearing power armor made you nigh-invulnerable to anything but deathclaws and heavy weapons, instead of just being slightly better than normal armor), but the writing and world-building are still top-notch, or even better depending on your preferences. Everyone's going to like different versions for different reasons according to their own tastes, and I'd recommend everyone play all four games if they find the time.

Yes. Four games. because Tactics does not exist and shall not be spoken of.

swicked wrote:Sometimes it seems like games aren't meant to be deep anymore. Takes too much attention span. Most gamers just want to know who to kill next and who cares why.

But, then again, stories are meant to be deeper than any other medium.
Well, some games (okay fine, most) those days do skip out on story. Which is why I don't play most games. But decent rpgs, like the Fallouts, Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls, etc. always do their best on that point. The problem is that the writer of a book only has to make a single story; the characters act one way, others react to that decision, and they have time to go into as much detail as they like along that one course. In a game, either the player is railroaded constantly and has no decisions of their own, even in dialogue, or the writer needs to write hundreds of stories. And since they aren't allowed to take several decades to make the game, each one is going to have to be abbreviated to some degree.

This is a thing that needs to happen.

@Derp
There are a lot of theories floating around about the door at Tenpony. She used her mechanical hoof instead of her own skin, so if it's a dna scan or something it wouldn't have worked, but her chrome was enough to open the pink bubble in this chapter so that's unlikely to be it. There were several significant looks exchanged between the Twilight Society and P-21 over the course of the time, so there's likely some trickery going on there. She opened Twilight's private office, which based on the state of disarray within was probably magically locked. She took the book of magical exercises (Twilight's personal copy, containing a note written by her, and thus a priceless artifact to her worshippers in the tower), and there were no objections but several bouts of stammering and nervousness when she mentioned doing so.
My theory is that before she tried the door, they had P-21 physically lock it so that she could break the enchantment for them but not get inside, as they didn't want her messing with the treasures within. Later when she went into Twilight's office and took the book, she was effectively claiming it as her birthright; the society couldn't object because they agreed that she had right to anything past the doors she opened for them, and they didn't want to say anything to her because if she knew she could then she might take more. They get all the knowledge and power behind Twilight's inner doors, P-21 gets whatever they offered (bribed with med-x?) and prevents Blackjack from becoming even more insufferable (and she said she kinda hoped she couldn't open the door), and Blackjack walks away clueless with a new book for foals. It's a plan that relies on BJ being lucky, helpful, and stupid: how could it fail?
