I don't know how to explain what makes Attack on Titan entertaining, but it's definitely different from many animes. I'm especially fond of the way it handles fear, for example, it's not common at all for the characters to face death stoically, which occurs very frequently in fiction.

I'd say the best way to see if you'll like it is to watch the first few episodes, if you're willing. It hooked me pretty well.

I'm tempted to watch that anime just to poke holes in it like Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw does to games, but alas I have not enough time.
