All I know is while I don't want to hate myself for what interests and engages me, I also don't want those same thoughts framed as normal-enough to act on outside of fantasy.

Anyway, I remembered another Superman vs. matchup that's always annoyed me... that of who is faster, Superman or Flash.
This, more than anything else, seems like a popular pair-up. I saw a race in a justice league cartoon and some other places that don't come as readily to mind. It's always decided by the race being abandoned in order to save people.
Given both of their absolute limits are pretty well documented as the speed of light, I don't understand any debate. If Superman surpasses that, he goes through time. If Flash does, he becomes a being of pure energy and merges with the extra-dimensional speed force. So yeah... they're even, right?
Frost, Scienza, and any other DC readers... am I missing something in this?

One of my coworkers just put his dick into a (working) fan.

And tried to put his tie into the fan after that.

It is as I foresaw: WE WILL BECOME SEXUALLY ATTRACTED TO HOME APPLIANCES

-

Brief History of Flash vs Superman races

It's rather idiotic

To me, it's the same as Sonic vs Rainbow Dash

ground speed vs air speed; they're not measured the same and there's a lot of conflicting factors  (Elevation, air density, etc)

I chalk it up to: One is good at flying, one is good at running, stop comparing the two (please?)

Sonic vs Mario:
What's next, people debating Sonic vs Mario?

One runs, one jumps, simple as that; Sonic isn't made for platforming unless it's a complicated series of boost-jumps and homing attacks and Mario isn't made for running in a straight line...

They both have the ability to fly with transformations; although I think that Super Sonic could beat the tar out of White Tanuki Mario

I suppose the fact that we're infantry excuses the fact that that sort of thing is abnormally restrained for us.

And the fact that we outright laugh in this retired-Specialist-mall-cop-bitch's face as she talks about the dangers of guarding a post gate. Apparently, the proper response to someone attempting to take your weapon is to fall on top of it in the fetal position.

@SuperFlash: if I recall, their 'race' was for charity and, unbeknownst to Superman, Flash was holding back significantly. In addition to being able to run up vertical surfaces and over water (negating a good deal of flying's advantages) he's way, way faster. If I recall, it's something of a rule that the Flash(es) are the fastest beings in the DC universe; period.

He has even ran fast enough to encounter God but the comic was discarded for religious reasons.

Some Flash even have the ability to 'borrow and lend speed'

I'd still rather have flight as a power though; take my time, see the sights...

Yeah, he isn't, he's just a very good all-rounder. IIRC, there are plenty of heroes that are better at his individual powers, it's just that they don't have the combo.

Who in DC is stronger? More invulnerable? More powerful eye beams? I could swear Superman's even beats Darkside's, even if the later's is more dynamic with its ability to change directions.
Better hearing? More or better vision(s) and/or perceptions in general?

A father draws what his daughter says:

@Superman's powers
Golden Age:

Superhuman strength
Superhuman speed
Superhuman senses (including telescopic vision, x-ray vision, superhuman hearing, microscopic vision)
Invulnerability
Superhuman breath
Flight (initially enhanced jumping, super-leaping)
Vocal abilities, including ventriloquism

Silver/Bronze Age:

Superhuman strength
Superhuman speed
Superhuman vision (including X-ray, microscopic, telescopic, and infrared)
Superhuman hearing
Invulnerability
Heat vision
Flight
Super breath (also freeze breath)
Mental powers
Vocal abilities, including super-ventriloquism
Super-hypnosis

Modern Age:

Solar energy absorption

Invulnerability
Superhuman speed
Flight
Healing-factor
Super-stamina, endurance, durability, agility and reflexes
Super-senses
Super-intelligence
Super-memory
Multilingualism
Telekinesis
Longevity

As for strongest DC character...I'd think Doomsday would fit the bill; he comes back immune to whatever killed him, right?

If I recall, Shazam is more invulnerable and Darkseid's Omega beams, while not as brute-force destructive, canonically are instantly-fatal (or time-warping, or matter-disrupting, or a whole host of other effects) and never, ever miss. Except when they do. In Final Crisis, he uses them to send Batman back to the Stone Age to be reincarnated again and again until the present age, where the energy he's built up with each incarnation will detonate with world-shattering force.

I don't recall the names at the moment, but there are a handful of outright clairvoyants in the DCU that would, by nature, be more perceptive.

The problem remains, though. He's DC's poster-boy and the guy non-comic-readers think of when they hear "superhero", so he's the guy the writers default to when the real shit goes down, and is resultingly as strong as they need him to be to win.

I feel like it's cheating to bring in Doomsday, since he exists entirely to be more powerful than Superman, but there's him. I'm pretty sure Darkseid has more powerful eye-beams, with strength and invulnerability on par with Supes. Shazam/Captain Marvel is exactly as strong and invulnerable as Superman, but he's also faster, has magic spells, and has superhuman intellect and wisdom. Orion is also another hero who basically matches Superman, with some benefits he gets from his dad, Darkseid. Lucifer Morningstar is literally the biblical Lucifer, which basically makes him nigh-omnipotent (though he isn't really interested in the affairs of a lone alien ruling over a mundane world).

Meh. Doomsday's more powerful up until you bring in an evil superman, at which point his brain is melted. Even without that, he can't fly, so there was never a reason why he couldn't have just been punched out of earth's atmosphere.
I've never read Shazam, but I didn't think the guy was that intelligent. Superman has access and understanding of all old kryptonian science. I would have thought that'd make him pretty hard to beat at brains.
Clarvoyancy doesn't really strike me as more perceptive. That's different from super hearing and etc. Kinda like how Doomsday isn't more invulnerable just because he can come back from the dead.

But kay, point made.

Not from DC, but this seems like a good time to plug my personal favorite thing that came out of the early days of comic book superheroes: Stardust the Super Wizard. He's the embodiment of that era. And yes, he could totally take Superman.

If Bob's all-powerful and invincible, all omniscience will do is let Dave know that Bob will skull fuck him and everyone on his planet at a whim. There's a reason nigh-omniscient characters distance themselves from normal affairs, particularly confrontations.

Nowadays, Superman--a nigh-invincible world-breakingly strong alien with a very specific weakness--sounds like a better villain concept than hero concept.

Only from the point of view of the hero. If the story is from a perspective of the villian it's pretty much the same. The main character has to figure out someway to overcome superman.

Now there's an idea for an alternate universe...

Lex, the Super Hero vs Superman the Villain

Doomsday and Darkseid meet up for beer on Tuesdays and get waylaid by Batman

Probably been done before, but sometimes its good to revisit old concepts with a new eye

-

How to beat Superman?

Trap him in a Virtual Reality Simulation and make him fly through rings

As I said, unlikely hero/villain matchups

Robin vs Doomsday
Trigon vs Superboy
Poison Ivy vs some character nobody remembers

I don't know; the DC Character list is as long as it is complicated, what with multiple Earths and realities open to nearly every hero and villain

Have some fun with it

There's a reason that comics nowadays are famous/ notorious for labrynthine plots and esoteric characters--straight-up Matchups between established characters aren't particularly engaging for anyone who's familiar with the universe.

Rarity disarmed a group of the Nightland's most elite soldiers.
They're headed to pick up Pinkie, who will likely defy imagination in her ability to foresee the future, evade any trap or blow, and generally dazzle the Nightland's leadership's imagination yet again.
The only statue they know about, of which the sunlands people do not, is Kindness.

So you see? They're going to do their best to intercept and confuse the combined force of the heroes of equestria, all allied with the sun, and try and take Fluttershy for themselves. Then determine what HER combat speciality is, to see if they can use her to bring SOME balance to all this.
I don't know how far the author's gonna go with it, but I suspect Fluttershy to get at least a little roughed up. Perhaps a lot. I don't see her managing to get up her Stare before they strike at least ONE blow...

There's also the question of what points in the timeline the others' memories cut off at.  That might not be anything meaningful, sure... but then again, it might be.  Is there anything significant about the last thing each of them is remembering, or is it just random chance?
...no, there is no chance it's random. I just haven't been keeping track of what each remembers. I should probably go back and figure that out...
Hm, I've not either…

Also, you haven't responded to that story recommendation.  It's fine if you don't want to read it, but I thought I'd mention it again to make sure you didn't just overlook the post or somesuch thing.
