I sometimes wonder what it'd be like to not be socially invisible. It doesn't matter if I wear make-up or not, look angry or manic or anything in-between, or what I wear (outside of pony shirts, which sometimes get noticed). Maybe it's just my corner of the world, though.

I live in that shitty purgatory between dreading and desperately needing social interaction.

@Swicked: Well, I kind of have the opposite "problem", in that I socially stand out everywhere I go. And I tend to leave lasting impressions on people.

Impossible to miss. Impossible to forget.

I mean, just here for example... Look at all the space I take. How much my presence occupy these premises. Well, without too much exaggeration, it's the same IRL for me pretty much everywhere I go.

'Tis one of the reasons pushing me so much toward being as much of a good person as I can. Because I almost literally can't do anything without people noticing.

Plus seeing people smile is always gratifying.

I'm in the exact same boat. From school to Basic to my unit, I'm high-profile despite my best efforts anywhere I go. It doesn't help that, my generally high performance aside, I'm pretty much guaranteed to help with whatever they need, from lending them a smoke to helping organize the arms room. Unfortunately, it means the "good-natured" ribbing I get is usually paired with appeals for help--they're on my ass one moment and on my nuts the next asking for help. The post especially spoke to me with "why do you look so mad all the time?" I'm almost never actually mad, I just have one of those faces, same as my dad. At some points, I just get tired of it, such as yesterday when this exchange happened:

Scrawny little Trevor-Phillips-Lookin' motherfucker: "Yo, why you look so mad all the time?"
Me: "Yo, why you look like a twelve-year-old meth-head?"
