Again, really simple book, honestly I think should be in Middle School lists, not High School.

I love the house. It's one of the intro books that led me eventually to horror genre and SCP.

Heh speaking of books, I remember a bunch of series I used to love as a kid, and now looking back at them, laugh at the ridiculousness of them. For example, I used to read books by an author named Gordon Korman. A bunch of adventure novels, but extremely silly in hindsight. Has a series called Island where a bunch of young teens somehow manage to perform surgery one of them for a bullet wound.

I remember reading most of these books people are talking about because they were assigned to me over the course of 7 years but one I don't think I say anyone mention yet that I personally loved is The Name of The Rose.

@Erumpet - How could I forget Heart of Darkness? One of the better summer books for me, and pleasantly compact compared to many of the rest! I personally didn't care to well for The Sun Also Rises, though.

-Fahrenheit 451 was better when I read it as a fourth grader than when I read it in high school freshman English. Bradbury himself was apparently not a huge fan of the book, or something. -Lord of the Flies was fine, but I couldn't help feeling as though other horror stories had probably done what it did better.

-Song of Solomon was a pretty cool book. I enjoyed reading it. Analyzing it was less of a good time, in part because everyone - myself included - was still very awkward about the sex. Also, peacocks.

-The Yellow Wallpaper: I ADORED this. Getting to read good psychological horror for class? Yes, please!

There were plenty of others, of course, from Shakespeare to Things Fall Apart, but those were the first to come to mind. If Somber could swing getting the class to read House of Leaves, that'd be pretty cool - I enjoyed that one in a college course on non-traditional fiction and poetry. It's friggin' long, though, and expensive, and somewhat graphic. And weird. But cool. Doesn't always work, but when it does, it's really cool, IMO.

Yeah, Bradbury got weird about 451. At some point he came out saying that it's not supposed to be about censorship, contradicting his own prior statements about the story and what absolutely everyone who ever read it could plainly see.

For Tale, I can understand that feeling, but compared to other stuff by Dickens, like Great Expectations, which I felt had no good characters and barely had a plot (YMMV), I found Tales to be pure gold.

Gatsby didn't make any long-term impressions on me, but I liked reading it alright. I should probably read it again sometime.

Based on Caesar and Cleopatra, I think that G. B. Shaw might be the author I was assigned to read who was most full of himself.

The Epic of Gilgamesh was fairly enjoyable, but of course harmed by both its repetitiveness and its incompleteness. I really wish the whole thing existed, though, as (so long as I just skipped over the full-on repetitions) I enjoyed it better than Illiad (it tended to have better pacing).

The only part of the Bible I ever had to read for class was The Book of Job, which might have been during our tragedy unit. It was actually pretty good, and I'd generally suggest it. Of course (and we're leaving high school, now), my favorite biblically-inspired story was A Rose for Ecclesiastes, which was assigned for a class I took my freshman year of undergraduate, 'Science Fiction and Historical Context'. The story was downright beautiful, easily among the best short-story-to-novella-length works I have had to read for school.

Well, since both Rand and Huxley have been brought up, and it's too late at night for impulse control, here's a funny idea I once heard about them. Suppose you have a teenage kid you don't want to take up reading Rand--one way to prevent it is to inoculate him by introducing him to Huxley's work; they write for a similar age level, but Huxley does better porn.

I don't suppose anyone here has read any of the original Casca books? I loved them, it is far and away my favorite disconnected series, by which I mean after reading the first book, you can read any of the rest in any order and not be missing much. I've not met someone else who read them, but I think they are great.

I feel really left out because unfortunately when I was at school, we were never assigned too many books to read.

Hamlet
Midsummer nights dream
Tempest
Macbeth

(See a pattern?)

Instead, we did English Anthology books I, II & III
(Basically, LOTS of poems and short stories rather than the classics).

You have! Let me issue my own recommendations and counter recommendations

First off Counter recommendations

A Tale of Two Cities-Classic book, but not one useful for highschool students, falls under the "give to the person who likes reading not something that is required reading"
Catcher In The Rye-Very much a love-hate book, an interesting read but the structure is deliberately fractured, I'd save it for a in class book not an assigned book.
Atlas Shrugged and Brave New World- To political in both cases, both make excellent first year college books but are to complex for anything but an AP high school class.

Atlas Shrugged in particular is boring as shit but given it forms the biases for Libertarianism it along with the Fountainhead are books useful in a political class or an analysis class as Common Sense and The Age of Reason are excellent works for a American history class.

And Then There Were None-A murder mystery that's gripping and great to break down, a book made to be read and talked about
The Hobbit-The classic fantasy book from where almost all fantasy springs, plus it lets your students cheat and watch the (THREE) movies if they want, a great winter break book to assign.
The Diary of a Young Girl-A book tailor made for discussion and a excellent book for talking about writing person narratives.
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn-A better book that Tom Sawyer which is mostly a lite hearted tail while this book deals with child abuse, racism, murder and grifting
To Kill a Mockingbird-A coming of age tale, not the heroes journey but the literal process of growing up and deals with the ever present problem of classes and racism making another great discussion book.
1984-The book you need to read before you can understand politics, the book you need to read to understand advertising and propaganda

As my old teacher said, books we read are not just about being good books but giving us common cultural narratives and teaching us about different writing styles. Then there were None is to let us read a mystery and teach about how to build tension and paint a scene. The Hobbit is for fantasy and the classic hero's tale of a journey and overcoming hardships, The Diary of a Young Girl(Ann Frank) is for autobiography's and reading a non-fiction book. Huckleberry Fin and it's themes lead nicely into to Kill a Mockingbird and I wish I had a third book to lead into in the mid 2000s but not yet, and last 1984 teaches wonderfully about politics.

You don't have an endless amount of time in English and that list gives you a solid years worth of material to read through at the pace most high schools go through. A book every five weeks with one spot open for the 7th book and teacher personal preference. I'd stick Enders Game in there, The Forever War or The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress as my Sci-Fi book which I left off my list. We got Crime and Mystery, Classic Fantasy, Autobiography and historical, Then two standard fictions filling different niches and what was once Sci-fi and is now just Alt history

@Somber: Not sure how costly that is, would take up almost all but ~30 € of all I get per month. but that's good to hear that you found a place.

@Sindri: (Golden) Likely me not using the correct term, but I've talked about it 2-3 times. A bit woozy now, but can try and take it again. Firstly is the part that he clearly states he is unfit/incapable to be with her, yet he does it to sate his own needs. Since going from both their conditions, neither of them are even close to fit with each other. Fluttershy needs someone that can take care of her and be there for her, as if I know right, she was very unstable at the time. Quite a few things can hint towards that he used used her to manipulate her easier. Letting him do this or that, or give up the megaspell. Even if her giving away the megaspell was ultimately a bad idea, he still has a large chance to have been using her as a puppet, going with his history. Thirdly, he clearly did not care fully for her, and as he couldn't get to his "true love", he used her as a ... pass time? whatever to call it. Despite knowing it was a bad idea, and that he couldn't handle it, and that he was bad for her health. (and on a side note, the strange power he had to get those really pissed at him to sympathise with him when he started coughing.) trailing of a bit likely, and very likely seeming coloured, but whatever, I'm not good at them anyhow.

As for her pregnancy, if she was stupid enough to become pregnant, or for whatever reason wanted a foal, despite knowing it had a high risk of dying, it just seems very reckless of her. The only other way she could get pregnant, was if Golden wanted a successor, and used her for her womb and bloodline. Showing he would be reckless in that manor, or selfish, not sure how to explain it. Since he'd put her in risk, and with a large chance to harm her physically and emotionally but only thinking of getting a foal to carry on his name, alternatively, increase the chance ... ah man... I forgot the name of the file... derp, anyhow, the chance for that to find an heir. Since it indicates he repeatedly, or at least once had unprotected sex with her when she was in heat. The last option would indicate that ponies had no protection alternatively, no knowledge about how babies were made, which would make no sense with BJ's implant. As said, Shy does not seem like the person that would risk her own life, jeopardise a foals (or pre-foals) existence to get a related foal of her own. If anything, she would adopt, since it would not have a 50+ % chance to be miscarried.

(Spoilers) Hum... it might just be me then, but I recall there was that "one spoiler" that people got upset over, as it like, was a major reveal or something. That, and might just be me again, I just recalled in my head that we have asked Somber to keep spoilers in spoilers, just for those that want to figure them out on their own.

@EP: (Age) I know we've been over the ages all and all, but overall if comparing stuff, Dash is between 13-18 in the show, Scoot is ~7, so we added like what? 20-30 years of them when the war starts? Assuming mayor mare is like, 50? That's when grey hair generally starts right? ... that made me ponder you guys... if they were granny's age when the bombs fell, how the fuck did they have foals in the first place? They'd run out of eggs when they were ~50 if going with human ages... And going with they'd be granny's age (if going with kkat) when the bombs fell, they are what? 70-90? So yeah... and wait, didn't FoE state AJ was like... 40-50 when the bombs fell, and she bucked apples in stable 2 for ... x years, then cooked for x more before she died of ripe old age? On a side note, I'd love to see a fic that dealt with Dash and Scoot after the bombs, since those are two characters that have "swinging room", so to speak. Scoot only has to die in the cabin, other than that, she is free to explore stuff. And Dash... well, someone already started some on one of those. Anyhow, the ages are kind fuzzy, but do keep our ovaries in mind. Since humans live longer than we are supposed to, thus we run out of eggs :P And since MLP ponies do as well, I'd reckon they also do.

Well, it advocates Objectivism, but I suppose it could be said that Libertarianism is based on that.

I can't even get it out of the atmosphere. After trying seriously 2 times, I strapped a bunch of rockets together and detached a whole bunch. Looked like fireworks lol.

right, I'll give you a formula.

MK 1.2 cockpit
FL-T32 fuel tank (big fuck off oil can one)
LV 909 rocket (fat small one, bottom right of the rockets)

TR 19A decoupler (just make it touch, don't really force it onto it like you could do)

FL-T32 x 2 downwards to give it a nice fuel boost
hit the yellow circle with the black dot inside to make it put more then one down in symmetrical sync.

"small hardpoint" in the crane icon list, x4, on the side of the top tank. then put another set of x2 tanks onto these hardpoints, one atop of the other like before.

page 2 of structural supports, find the strut option. use as many as you need to secure the tanks together for stability.


add LV-T30 (big liquid fuel boosters) to the bottom of each fuel line bit.

now go into command & control, add wings & ADVANCED SAS module to the sides and top of the ship respectively.




test it.




before you try to fly, press t. make sure the SAS signal goes on.
should get into orbit.

How do you unlock more parts? Or do you need the full version?
