How long should the time gap be

Because of a combination of circumstances the RP Cbox found at http://ponyroleplay.cbox.ws// (Alternate URL http://ShutUpReverb.HotButteredPopcornTastesSoGoodICantLiveWithoutIt.com/ ) will be going through a major storyline change. In an attempt to straighten out many issues there will be a time gap undefined years that will be "fast forwarded" and the major events for what happens in this time period will be written by Moonlight. Once the major events and basic story are written you may decide what any of your own characters did during that time and we will pick up the RP from the new point in time.
This solution to the problems you may be aware of if you are a part of that roleplay was chosen as it allows you to make very large changes to characters while still maintaining the storyline already established. This also allows for a fresh start in the RP as playing the same characters far in the future will be both a challenge at time and very fun.
Until Moonlight finishes the outline of events the RP progresses as normal, just dont go crazy doing things your characters will regret because they will remember (if you choose to continue using them after the gap). For now we only have a small understanding of what the universe will be like after the time gap.

There will be 10 guilds, each different, fight each other in a war causing a semi apocalyptic event over the course of the time gap. They sign a contract known as the GuildPact to stop the war, but are still against each other. The "new" roleplay will take place sometime after this contract is signed.
Sp far, if the guild leaders are not defined they can be claimed by RPers as their own characters. I don't know which have been claimed so ask permafrost or those that did please just say something in a post.
The first guild is The Senate
The lawkeeper guild. The Senate makes the laws and makes sure all follow, and punish those who don't with punishments ranging from jail time to the death penalty. Because of their nature, its likely they work with or under Celestia and/or Luna
The League
A guild where mad scientists and geniuses work tirelessly for their master, a dragon with a great mind. The dragon has ordered experimentation and studies more and more since the GuildPact was created. The question on every other guild leader's mind is is there reasoning behind the dragons madness? With The League, you could be helping build a street with studies or accidentally blow it up with a failed experiment.
The Cult
A guild of chaos and mischief. Led by a demon in the Undercity, this guild will stop at nothing to "have a blast." On the Surface, there are several, loosely associated "rings" led by a ringleader. Each ringleader performs a show of horrific slaughtering of its creatures in front of its audience, and sometimes the performers and audience members are put up in the casualties, but to The Cult, its just a normal show day
The Swarm
A guild that understands life and death, both in society and nature. They live in the Undercity, scavenging the Surface for the bodies of the dead to add to their ranks, which include giant insects, vermin, and zombies.
The Conclave
A guild that is one with nature. Those in it are spread all over Equestria and are close to all things in nature. They want Equestria to return to its original roots, to stop city and building progression. They communicate to animals and plants alike, creating armies from small forests and happily help each other.
The House
A guild of thieves, assassins, and spies. Many ponies, some from other guilds, hire The House to assassinate, sabotage, steal, or spread rumors for them. This guild is led by a changeling who is an expert of hiding in plain sight. When an important building mysteriously catches on fire, an important figure is killed or somehow forgets something important, its very likely The House played a role
The Syndicate
This may look like a religious, nice guild, but it has much darker secrets. Behind the cathedrals, ceremonies, and robes lie debts. Many are in debt to the Syndicate for one reason or another, but the Syndicate also keep you in check after death. If one is in debt to them and dies, the soul maybe tortured or shackled to something, making sure those that didn't repay them in life wont get away in death. It is said that the leader of this group is a group of spirits, each spirit, when alive, was a pope-like figure to the guild. The Syndicate isn't all bad however, happily helping out friends and family alike if they are in any sort of trouble.
The Clans
A guild that live in the wild among the Ursas and the Hydras, believing that all must live by survival of the fittest. Like the Conclave, they want nature to reclaim Equestria. However, where the Conclave want to peacefully want to take it back by simply stopping the progression, The Clans will lead an assault on the cities among behemoths from the forests. Hydras and Chimeras are natural to be seen around these ponies, and they don't play nice.
The Combine
A guild of based upon experimentation through mutations. Crossing various animals together to see the results is typical for this guild, even making obscure mutations, like a crocodile and a frog. The members of this guild also are occasionally seen with oozes, which are living blobs of slime. Some keep the oozes as pets, feeding them failed experiments making them monstrous. Others use oozes in their experiments, creating horrific results. No living being is safe from their experimenting, not even ponies.
The Legion
A guild that brings hope to the guildless of the land, protecting them from the other guilds. Led by an angel, the members of this guild wont hesitate to help any civilian in need, and believe that they can remove the guilds from power if everyone works together. No one is too weak or helpless to help the Legion, anyone can make a difference.

Finally, there is a radical resistance movement known as The Guildless
The Guildless Movement is a small group who attack those in guilds, even The Legion. They don't want any guild around and are slowly growing in numbers.

THE STORY DURING THE GAP
What thenceforth transpired was this. As the Black Scale army grew ever more powerful and malicious, ten Guilds began to emerge from the woodwork, consisting of Senate, the League, the Cult, the Swarm, the Conclave, the House, the Syndicate, the Clans, the Combine, and the Legion. Between interior sabotage from the Swarm, a guild of insects and the undead, and the growth of the other reptilian armies' attack on the outside, the Black Scales were eventually defeated, their structures left in ruin. Eris' chokehold on Equestria grew weaker with each of the Elements reverted to their original state. The last to fall was Queen Chrysalis, of the Changelings, who fled to the caves of Roam to find solace in a new home after the Black Scales destroyed their old one. Princesses Celestia and Luna regained control over Canterlot, then the remainder of Equestria. After that, the six heroines who wielded the Elements twice before, did so once again, imprisoning the draconequus and her male counterpart in stone once more. She did not go down easily, however, and when she did, she brought Equestria's favorite draconequus with her. As she stands in Canterlot Gardens scowling, there is a hardly detectable smirk underneath. The creature known as Zane had been taken with her, and so too does he wait in agony, to return to his royal fiancé, the Princess Luna. The ten Guilds fought amongst themselves, and little was done until the Guildpact was formed, and for a time, there was peace. However, while there was peace, the tension between the Guilds did not end. The Senate became the main law force in elitist Equestria, loyal to the royals. The Conclave protected the nations natural resources and habitats. The Clans dwelt among the less hospitable regions bordering the badlands and the arctic tundra. The Syndicate set up their protection services in Manehatten, the House made their special services available through Baltimare, and the League, while often scattered, and making new discoveries, often held conference in Fillydelphia. The Cult, the Swarm, and the Combine lived in secrecy, frowned upon by all the others. That never stopped the Cult from putting on a show, however. Last, but not least, the Legion, "a guild for the guildless" was spread in influence all across Equestria, though their largest base of operations became Roam. They made it their first order of business to rebuild the twice destroyed city and restored it to twice the city it once was. And now, our heroes and less than heroes embark on a new adventure, in the new world of the Guilds.

DUE PROCESS FOR RESUMPTION OF RP
To resume the roleplay story you must decide what you are going to do with your characters. You may write that they did anything regarding to the story in the above post as long as it isn't too extreme. If you want something more extreme, just talk to us about it in the chat and we'll probably come to an agreement pretty quickly if it's okay or not, it probably is. IT would be nice for everyone to write what their characters did in a post here, but it is not required or anything.
Writing what your characters did in this gap can include: Jobs they did, Events in their life, Deaths, etc.

During the Black Scale invasion, the crew of the Tidebringer fled, but so did Captain Glistening Lance's regiment, and amidst the chaos, they fought. After an epic battle, the pirates were no match for the Royal Guard. Both sides suffered casualties, and Silver Soul was able to defeat the Crimson Captain, but his men followed through, leaving only the wicked she-Minotaur to live as a prisoner aboard the ERS (Equestrian Royal Ship) Oceanscorcher until the day the Changelings were eradicated from Canterlot, and she was transported there as a prisoner.

When it happened, they could do nothing to resist. It was a pitch night in the Roaman undercaves, and Gregor was out thieving for a meager meal for himself and the zebra alchemist whom he had sought refuge with. The Black Scales rolled in and Gregor sensed trouble immediately. Around that time, the Thieves' Guild decided to grow a heart and allow their sewer hideout to house refugees from the Black Scale invasion, so Gregor brought Zuri to them, and for a while, they managed. They had survived sewer sweeps before, but this time, the reptilian soldiers were particularly vigilant. When one of them spotted the light from an lantern that was not tended to shining through the brick lining of the sewer system, they blew a hole through it, finding a path to the place where all the refugees were camped. They were ordered to come quietly, and some may have… but there were thieves and fighters among them who would not give up so easily. It was a massacre. Elders, females, and children alike were mowed down in a red haze, and on that day, the waters of the sewers ran red with blood.

The lovely engaged couple were not able to become wed amidst the chaos; therefore, they waited. They waited more than a year, for order to be restored to Equestria, and their love for one another never faltered. The one who brought Lanelli into her new life was present for the wedding, though not as either of them might have wished. Zane, having been statued through Eris' deception and cruelty, was forced to watch from his stony prison. Princess Luna, to whom Zane was engaged, volunteered to marry the couple, because of their ties with the one she loved. It was a beautiful ceremony, and though there were tears shed, it was the happiest day for two very special mares. They lived on, and when news reached that Roam was being rebuilt, Cream wasted no time bringing their family back to its original home, where they were able to find a real home - an multi-room apartment - and where Cream set up shop once again, providing delicious, heartwarming coffee to an unsuspecting public. Luna, as it were, remained ever faithful to Zane. Each night, she would visit him in the garden, and she would let her heart pour from her mouth in a beautiful stream of words like poetry, professing to the night, her love for him. And so to, each night, she would return to her room, and cry tears of sadness, but also tears of hope.

Sapphire lied. Otherwise, she was mistaken, but she was not a perpetual filly. As the years went by, she found herself growing, and the fluffy coat surrounding her muzzle and her hooves became white as snow, not quite from age, but maturity. She was able to talk Dismay into letting her take cat for at will, and for a while, she lived as such with little care in the world, until the Guild War. Interested, she took on the role of a spy. Naturally, she was discovered by the House, and between her skill and previous experience, she became their smallest initiate. And she did not disappoint them. Every mission they sent her on was a success. She suffered scars and wounds from the few targets smart, or rather foolish enough to fight back. When the Guildpact was signed, business slowed, and Saph returned to her friends between the bar and the library cafe that was under reconstruction. Just because a treaty was signed doesn't mean the House stops its operations. Not by any means. Only one question then remains. Who will be the thief assasin's next target?
--Of Insanity and Necromancy

When the Blind Bandit returned to the basement entombed in rubble with the Necronomicon, the doctor named Stitches had, with little doubt, all but lost his sanity. His eyes were bloodshot, his glasses cracked, and his coat torn to reveal his own stitchwork in his very body. A pile of half-eaten research papers sat in the corner of the room. If the lonliness and the smell of rot didn't take a toll on his mind, then the ink did. Murmurings of rotting flesh and bone, and the ring of his incessant, disturbed laughter followed the bandit's ears as she fled the doctor's hideaway. What she had seen disturbed her so, but what she did not would have shared his insanity. The usual cool blue glow of his magic became darkened through the book's magic into a bloodstained red, and as a slow, wild grin crept across his face, the figure so long concealed under a canvas tarp began to twitch to life. This attracted the attention of the Swarm, and is how they became attracted to the warfare of the Black Scales. In time, after the wasteland streets of Roam were safe again, and the doctor having survived on small insects, they came for him. The bodies of the dead, accompanied by his own creation, led him deep into the caverns, and he was never again seen by surface dwellers, becoming a figure of esteem only in the Swarm and the Combine, never to be loved and appreciated as the god he once dreamt to become.
--Of the Automaton and the Prodigy

In a brass tower, in a stretch of land in Equestria nearly uninhibited by ponykind, Gears did reside with the automaton called Cogs, whom she had given simulated emotions. As the years and the Guild War passed them by, Gears worked tirelessly on her special project: a set of armored robots tht she called the Faces, which enhanced not only the users phyisical capabilities, but also their emotions, each Face enhancing a different one. As she grew bigger and easier to injure, she developed a fondness for goggles, similar to those that pegasi sometimes wear, as well as a protective (yet slimming) jacket, though she never outgrew her taste in headwear. Cogs, in the meantime, had begun to learn a great deal from Gears, and had become, more or less, the tinkerer's assistant. The AI learned how to use the horn that it's unknown previous creator had given it, able to use artificial magic in the form of electromagnetic pulses, able to levitate objects among other things. As for the addendums that Gears made to the automaton, she gave it an uplink to almost any of the machines that she had made, including the Faces and the Spyders which she used as workers, spies, and everything in between. After a time, Cogs had begun to develop an emotional attatchment to the prodigious tinkerer who had taken it under her care, and the prodigy did also become rather fond of it. And so they lived as such through the war and the peace, but what new adventure awaits this mechanical duo?

- After a time, the Black Scales succeeded in their soldier resurrection. They called it "Operation: Phoenix." Sky was among the first of a new breed of super soldier, without emotion, without weakness, and most important to Shadow; without memory. Shadow obeyed his orders from Sturm loyally, but when things started going to hell for the Black Scales, he saw his opportunity to escape. He searched the databases to find where the Phoenix branch had been sent, and he left immediately, leaving his regiment to perish at the scaly claws of the resistance. When word got out that Shadow had finally snapped, Sturm devised the most brutally cruel punishment for his insubordination. He would have Shadow killed by the hollow shell of the one he loved, and the tracking device in his armor allowed the devious reptile to lead the lamb to the wolf. They intersected each other in Roam, the city where their relationship once blossomed. She descended from a helicopter. The city had been cleared so that the higher-ups could enjoy the show. Shadow tried to reason with her; they were in a losing war, and they were on the same side. However, when an empty cup is filled with sour milk, that's all that it is. She refused his pleas, and told him her orders, a search and destroy mission, no prisoners, no mercy. Seeing the futility of his pleas, Shadow was just about ready to surrender, when at that moment, the resistance took advantage of the emptiness of the city, and the buildings with heat signatures were the first targeted. Shadow saw the command buildings, the first to go, and he knew they would be next, so with nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no hope, he resolves the best he can do is taste love one last time, and he kissed Sky, just as the building beneath them began to crumble.

- A few days later, Shadow awakened amidst the rubble of the building. No search parties, only himself and what was thought to be the perfect soldier, staring down at him with eyes empty, but also full of longing. He tried to stand, but found himself unable to move. The empty soldier stated quite plainly, "You need medical attention," and he did. He asked her why she wasn't trying to kill him. Quite simply, she said, "The war is over. To kill now is futile." Shadow smiled slightly at this. No Black Scale he ever met had ideas like that. What is the brain, after all, but a place to store information, and memories?

- Shadow was able to convince Sky to carry him back to Ponyville, where he was hospitalized. On the way there, she began to ask questions concerning why Shadow acted the way he did. He answered as best as he could, and she had more and more questions for each answer he gave. This continued until they got to the hospital, and when she came to the room they kept him in, the questions continued. As Shadow gave his answers, he identified a change in the way Sky, as it were she was becoming, was behaving. She began to speak as she used to, and smile, not as a mindless zombie, but as a pony who could love and be loved - a pony that Shadow loved, and in time, was loved by once again. After Sky seemed to have gotten all, or most of her memories back, the couple returned to the bar, where the copy's original and the ninja first met face to face, and they lived on, as they did in the days before the Black Scale invasion.

- After hearing about the rising of the Guilds, Whitefang wanted to go out and explore some of these guilds. What he found was not to his liking. After getting into trouble with several of the clans, resulting in some deaths and wanted posters, he became fed up with guilds and what they were doing, resulting in the creation of what is now the Guildless Movement. Whether or not he is still wanted by some of the Guilds, is unknown

- Blix continued normally during the war, finding small stories to help his mother, Film Reel. However, once the guilds signed the Guildpact, Blix quickly found out about the happenings between the guilds, and it delighted him to no end. He is currently focusing his stories on the guilds, along with his team of long time friends who now run the Ponyville Newspaper. Although, according to his companions, he has came in tardy recently to work, and seems to be day dreaming at times. What lies in store for the little photographer? Only time will tell.

- Like most other changelings that were under Chrysalis, this country changeling continues his guard duties in the new Hive. However, he has a secret he doesn't dare tell the others, a secret crush he had developed in his free time when he explored Equestria, looking for some space so he can begin his own farm. He has, instead, helped keep the guilds from finding out about the new Hive. The thought of that pony haunts him day and night, gnawing at his heart and mind. It's been a couple years since this first started, and he fears soon, his heart will defeat him, causing him to reveal to all that which he hides.
Shiver Heartfreeze-

- After her run in with the zebra twins, she hid in the rubble of Roam for the remainder of the time the Black Scales were in Roam. Having lost one of her ears from a Black Scale, she has had some difficulty listening for her primary target, but she has been spending the recent years in the new Hive, training to finish off her other self once and for all. Permafrost will be taken down, or she will die trying.

- After, and even during the end of building, the house that Frostbite and Vinyl live in was built, Frostbite's curious nature took hold once more. Using her pony disguise, Red, she has been sneaking around the streets, hiding in trash cans and sewers, listening closely to every bit of information she could of the guilds. She has put her findings in a small book she hides from all, still unsure of who could use it most. With growing up, she has also become more fluent in her magic, poking around with her newly found ice magic from her father's side. This magic she hides from Vinyl, not knowing how she may take it. Now and then she will steal small things from the guilds, slowly unlocking secret after secret, and plans to know everything and everyone of importance.
Chance-

- Chance, like the other members of the Elementals, was busy keeping the guilds from harming each other and the civilians of nearby cities. He used his magic over small time spells and his deck of cards to help do his part. However, he almost went too far with his gambling, leaving his coltfriend, Foxy, for a mere few moments. When he returned, all he saw was an object fly at Foxy's head. Chance slowed down time momentarily enough to push Foxy to the groud, avoiding the object that dissipated into nothingness before he could get a good look at it. Though the shooter has yet to be found, more then likely because of the Guildpact, Chance doesn't want to leave Foxy alone anymore, keeping him as close as he can at all times, and at the same time, thinking of one of his greatest gambles that has yet to happen.

I guess i'm writing for Twilight and Taters, but since i can't write here's a bland set of statements regarding what they did.
Vinyl Scratch rebuilds her home with Frostbite

- Taters and Twilight remained in the library. During the time of fighting Twilight protected the library with as much power as she could muster, in that time Taters learned more defensive magic than he could ever have imagined to master. They did not however make it through the war unscathed. Taters was out on one of his nightly walks the the day the fighting reached into Ponyville for the first time. The battling sanctions had ultimately cut him off from Twilight's library for 2 days. On the first day his left ear was skimmed in the crossfire of a unicorn's offensive magic and that portion of his ear has been missing since. The second day just before sundown a small portion of a building fell and his hind-right leg was caught in the rubble. With his injured leg he decided he needed to return home before he'd no longer have the chance. With Twilight's help his leg healed but he's walked with a limp ever since. Twilight's library suffered minor exterior damage before Ponyville was left alone and though it was repaired it never looked like it should, it's very hard to fix a tree. Taters and Twilight have both become more protective of the library and the knowledge within, their suspicion of anyone that may wish to check out books comes from the fact that they have no idea what they may want to do with them when they take them, nor if they will ever be returned.
Taters' confusing phase of romantic interest in Oakheart finally faded before the fighting even began and afterward He and Twilight would spend time with Oakheart together when they could, she became a good friend to the couple. However on her own Twilight could never forget when Taters first told her about his confusion, and she thinks about it occasionally.
Everyone has also discovered that Taters name is absolutely ridiculous, and that fact that he is now Limpy Taters is even more funny.
Vinyl Scratch rebuilds her home with Frostbite

Vinyl Scratch ran off out of ponyville during the fighting, but returned as soon as the GuildPact was signed. With the help of Frostbite and some well placed odd jobs she was able to get a new home built for the two of them. A small single story house with 2 bedrooms just down the road from Sugarcube Corner. Since they moved in she was able to recollect some more music equipment and for the first time produced her own album. Selling well enough in Equestria to ensure she can live comfortably with Frostbite. She never quit making music and her mane still never get's brushed.

I like it because it really gives more choice and story line is kinda at a halt right now but with the guildless movement it might start going again.

I like the time skip because it gives me a chance to step back and rethink my characters, like how they change over a course of five or so years. Saph becoming a ninja assassin, Stitches becoming a necromancing madpony, ect, ect... Also it gives us a chance to think how things change on a larger scale in terms of villages and cities, a war come and gone, ect. I think it all offers a new perspective!
