Went down and picked her up, when I asked to buy he dropped the price to $65 if I paid with cash. Came with a nice recoil pad too! Now for the nitty-gritty.

Everything seems in proper order, barrel isn't pitted at all. He didn't have the key for the trigger lock, so I'm going to have to drill the fucker to get it off. I've been recording some video of myself examining it, I'll post it when I edit out the nonsense parts.

Yep. However, she came apart very easily. Five steps and and a few seconds and you're done.

1. Slide pump back.
2. Unscrew tube
3. Lower barrel.
4. Slide pump back.
5. Remove barrel/tube from receiver.

Some see the lack of manual safeties (aside from the one built into the trigger; that little "spur" sticking out from it) as a hazard.

Of course, anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that reliance on mechanical safeties is a recipe to shooting yourself in the dick. Proper trigger and muzzle discipline, combined with caution while maintaining the weapon and generally just following proper firearm safety rules will keep you safe and sound. Especially since Glocks are notoriously tough and solid guns. For concealed carry, an actual quality holster factors in as well--shoving any gun into your waistband is a recipe for getting your dick shot off.

To be fair, I like the way Glocks fit in my hand as well. Considering that Glocks are a lot more affordable and simple (as well as very damn tough) and I prefer shooting 9mm, I'll probably be carrying a Glock 19 once I turn 21, and carrying it for a while.

I also tend to shoot more accurately (relevant for sport-shooting) and faster (relevant for defense) with 9mms.

Honestly, accuracy, while a nice bonus, isn't paramount in a defensive pistol, considering most defensive use of concealed carry pistols occur within seven yards. The ability to quickly put your opponent down is paramount, which in turn makes the key factors of a CCW: 
1.) Handling--how fast you can draw the weapon and how intuitively you can aim it. 
2.) Potential to stop an opponent--this doesn't mean going for the biggest gun you can, or the one with the most much-hyped "stopping power". Capacity, stopping power, fire rate, and shot placement all factor in.
3.) Reliability--The ultimate weapon is useless when it can't fire
4.) Affordability--The ultimate weapon is useless on a gunshop's shelf.

From what I'm given to understand, quite a few of them (like attempts to make compact 1911s) tend toward reliability issues and lose a lot of the intuitive handing and performance that sets the 1911 apart. Camo, Stone or Jack would almost certainly know better than me, though, so I would defer to their input

And I didn't even use a drill.

My mom rushed, too. Bought a Kel-Tec PF9. I eventually had to modify it so it worked properly.

A brand-spanking newly designed pistol won't work any better than an older, time-proven pistol. You don't need the latest in space-age gadgets and polymers, you need something that will go bang when you want it to, every time. Practice at the range is also key; familiarity with the weapon is everything when it comes to using it.

My thoughts exactly, Stone. The 1911 has over a century of proven worth, even if it is on the pricey side. The Glock has, if I remember correctly, around 40 years. Guns like the Kel-Tec are, what, mid-late 90's? Not trusted by professionals or proven by time.

I'm not saying older=better (we'd still be slinging swords if that were the case) but a design that endures endures for a reason.

As far as the video goes, that was nicely made. I look forward to more progress updates.

Also, I don't know if you get this a lot, but you're a really good-looking guy.

Good thinking. Honestly, call me weird, but I really enjoy just sitting down and cleaning my guns. The smell of gun oil, the clicks of mechanics, the hum of the scanning electron microscope used to find and obliterate every stray molecule of carbon......priceless.

And it surprises me you don't get that a lot. You've got the whole "smart, but rugged" thing going on.
