That was once a Mosin Nagant.

Stoneslinger, I get the point you were trying to get across and I agree with it, but that's actually pretty minimalistic In my opinion. All it really is is a sporterized nagant with a lightweight stock. It's not really that bad.

This however, gets the point you were trying the make across much clearer.:
If not for the barrel being visible, you wouldn't even know there was a gun in that picture.

i got a jar full of ammunition... my girlfriend got a glock 19 doesn't want it, and doesn't think she can work the slide, I told her a revolver might be better for her since she has so much trouble with slides(ive seen her try with my walther) then you factor in she doesn't have strong feelings regarding owning a gun. I told her to be straightforward and honest. if she says she does not want a gun or would rather have a revolver, say it right out, so we'll see.

Neither. White-tip in this case refers to the rounds being "reference rounds" or "Etalon", basically meaning they were what stored munitions were compared to to make sure they weren't going bad. The rounds are supposed to have the least variance out of any bullet for any category, even surpassing sniper-grade ammunition. However, fifty years has gone by, and probably shoot near the same as any other surplus round at this point.

I recently went to a hardware store after hearing that they had firearms that I was under the impression were difficult to own in Canada, as they were semi-automatic. They had a few Mosins, but what was really interesting was the SKS and an SVT-40. Both were rather cheap at only about 200-300. They also had a sporting Czech AK (I think it was a CSA vz. 58) with the magazine pinned to 5, complete with Czech milsurp ammunition. The ammo was really cheap compared to other calibers, but the rifle was not.
They only had AR-15-styled weapons in .22, most likely because the .223 version is restricted.
It was quite interesting to find an SVT there, I was surprised due to their relative rarity. They didn't seem to have 7.62x54R though, which seemed odd.

That's about what you can expect to pay around here, too. If you or your folks can nab a Mosin, that would probably be a good choice for you if you can get a hold of ammo--around here, at least, milsurp ammo like 7.62X54 is usually cheaper even than stuff like 5.56

Depending, you can pay anywhere from 80-150 bucks for a spam can (440 rounds) of 7.62x54R. Even at the $150 high mark, it's still three times cheaper than any modern centerfire ammo out there. And you found an SVT40? You lucky, lucky fuck. Still looking for my Hakim, I'd rather buy from one of the gunshops where I can inspect it than from a website.

Fuck This Cold
Lyrics by Nathan Skeen

To the tune of “Raise This Barn” by Daniel Ingram

Chorus: Fuck this cold, fuck this cold, 1 2 3 4
This is gettin' fuckin' old, 1 2 3 4

Chorus

Up up up, outta the rack
hope for road condition black
I wish it would warm up soon
All I'll get is doom and gloom

Chorus

Get to my car but it won't budge
Cuz of all this frozen sludge
Hurry hurry, can't be late
Platoon sergeant's pretty irate

Chorus

Get to work, get shit done
Oh what's this? Company run
It's so cold, I might die
Lost all feeling in my thighs

Chorus

Finally done with everything
Go back home, to get clean
Knock on my door, what the heck?
Oh look, a barracks check!

Chorus

Check the weather, it's no better
Gettin' colder and much wetter
High of 3 and rain all day
I don't like this, no fuckin' way

Not sure what "zonked" means in military slang, but it sounds painful and humiliating.

It just means the formation has as little time as possible to get out of sight. Reports of people jumping hedges, fences, each other, etc. etc. And if you're out of sight, nobody bothers you for a while.

http://www.military.com/daily-news/2014/01/31/militarys-progress-on-women-in-combat-criticized.html?ESRC=army-a.nl

So this outlines the latest bitching and crying of the people who want women in every single job the military has, often disregarding any and all logic against the idea.
Allow me to highlight my favorite current complaints and ruin them.

a proposed physical screening test is questionable since it focuses on strength-based measures and not skills actually needed for the work

.....

Marines’ plan calls for testing women to see if they can deadlift 135 pounds, bench 115 pounds, carry 95 pounds for 50 meters while wearing full combat gear, load a 120mm tank round and scale a 7-foot wall. But these skills might not be needed, Jacob said.

So we shouldn't test to see if they can pick up (half of) an unconscious soldier, push someone off of them, carry an injured soldier on a litter, load artillery shells, or climb over an obstacle? And they definitely shouldn't have to do the same thing that all men are expected to be able to do in order to perform at the lowest level for a combat scenario. Hell no, that would be sexist to expect them to have the same ability in combat jobs where they DEFINITELY will NEVER be needed.

Ranger School still remains closed to women even though the program is not solely for infantry soldiers

....

Continuing to exclude women from accessing this elite leadership school makes it appear that the Army is not confident in women’s leadership or combat service potential.

How dare we not allow women into one of the top 5 hardest military schools in the world when only 10% of them can even pass the minimum combat arms tests.
How dare we think its a bad idea to let women into a school that is basically a level of special forces and only has a 50% graduation rate.
How dare the army think it's a bad idea to send women to a school that is specifically designed to almost kill soldiers from exhaustion, sleep deprivation, and food deprivation to the point that after graduation all the students could be mistaken for 80 year olds health wise.

And now for my favorite.

Integrating women into combat strengthens our country both morally...
Holy fuck what? Wanting to ensure that our military is always at its best without compromising for the sake of equality is bad? God damn who the fuck are these people?

...and militarily.
Okay, I can partly agree with this, but 99% of me disagrees.
The marines have already been criticized for not lowering infantry physical standards to the universal female standard to make it easier for them to get in. First off, the female standards in every service are hilariously low and pathetic (really, an 18 year old female has lower standards than a 45 year old man, it's sad), and second, those standards are high for a fucking reason.
On top of this, they always assume that female soldiers are always the same level of skill and professional that men are. Anyone in the military can tell you so many horror stories about shithead females who don't know anything about their jobs that this becomes laughable. Yes, there are shitty male soldiers too, but for each of them you will meet 5 shithead females. I don't know what it is, but finding a female soldier that is actually good at their job and isn't an entitled cunt is a miracle nowadays.

Basically, I'm still going to say that integrating women into every military job is the worst thing that has happened to the military in human history, for reasons that I could fill a 30 page paper with, and people crying about how we're taking "too long" to make this change to an institution that has been this way for over 200 years are just pissing me off at this point.

Things I learned in the motorpool today:

1. In absence of shovels, rakes make good replacements.
2. We have too many rakes.
3. They're stored with the mops, for some reason.
4. In absence of anything, your feet do the job.
5. One tie-down will do the job of three when confusingly threaded.
6. A ten-foot high mound of compacted snow is no match for a reversing five-ton.
