So, this is the official thread for the Project Horizons Comment Crew members to talk/plan Day Z stuff.
You can join in with us even if you don't follow the threads/story, of course, I just make this with the primary intention of it being our discussion place, ya dig?

If anyone is nearby, want to travel with me? Currently looking for weapon for self defence and the like.

If I remember correctly, swimming in DayZ has a good chance to remove things from your inventory. I lost my coyote pack and I now am using a Czech vest pouch. I'll see how close I can get.

I just bought the game, maybe I'll join when I have the time.

Same as scoots here, I'm downloading it, so I'll probably join ya'll after I have my fun in the main game.

I bought ARMA 2 in the steam summer sale the other day. Installed Day Z but I'm massively underwhelmed. As much as I love the EVE esque approach of 'here's a beach and a can of beans, go have fun', playing at night is a pain in the backside to start out and connecting to servers halfway round the world have loading times that are horrendous.

Also as an extra kick in the teeth the mod has totally destabilized my regular copy of ARMA to the point where I can't launch the game normally and disabling mods doesn't work after launching in Day Z.
Which is a shame because I really liked the one multiplayer coop game I got into on regular operation arrowhead.

If I can ever get my bank card to working and can spare the cash I'll get ARMA II and join. Other then that the main thing keeping me away from Day Z is I know I wouldn't be able to play without a group I know I can join.

I'm just too nice a guy, even as a gamer to just be plotted down in the middle of nowhere and expect to survive with out trying to help others. I'd be prime Bandit bait.

Ah, I'm going to wait until I've "paid" for my copy to start really playing it, but as I said in the PH thread, here's how to get it to run through Steam properly.

You go into your computer and find the "C:\Program Files (x86)\SIX Projects\Six Updater\@DayZ\expansion\beta" or similar path into the Six Projects folder. What you want to do then is copy the "dll" folder and the "arma2oa" application and copy them to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead" after backing up the originals.
You'll still get a warning message, but the game should still launch alright and let you connect through Steam.

- I'm really sorry you're having problems with it... The only thing I could suggest is re-installing, but I don't know how much that would help.

Useful hints:
-In towns travel only in prone (or if you feel safe - crouch with Shift pressed, for walking)

-Don't fire from gun, unless you need to, zombies lured to the sound of shooting

-If you have zombies behind you and you're running for your life. It's easy to hide from them in towns, just run around the corner and quickly go in prone and just lie there, without moving. It might not work for a few times, but it's good tactic. Even better, if you run inside building and went in prone (try to close door too. They CAN go through door, if they see you or lured by sound, but they can't see through door)

-Forget about looting ammo first, if you can have bandages, food and/or water. It's critical for you to have everything to survive, rather then fight off zombies.

-Hatchet and crowbar...your best friends.it's silent melee weapons. Also you can use hatchet to chop some woods for campfire. You can also brake with them glass in some buildings to access inside them.

-Don't act like Rambo, if you have some weapon. If you don't have bandages and you're bleeding...well, unless you will be really lucky and find some on zombie it would be easier to press 'Respawn' in game menu, since after Blood Level drops to 2-4k you cant see anything around and fall unconscious.

-Also. If you're playing with friends and just died. You can hit 'Respawn' till you'll respawn somewhere near them. Note. You're respawnin only near shore.

EDIT:
-Another note. In most cases your character is cross-server. I mean, in most cases you can log off on one server and log in on another and have your character there. I still can't get why it's not always working.

I died when I logged out after getting surrounded. Serves me right, I suppose. I had a double barrel and a makarov, and my most precious possession was an M67 Grenade. And like, 10 bandages.

I've always been able to survive by doing that.

Had a good three +1/2 hour session with Katarn and his crew - managed to finally get some weapons, proper training involving the game, learnt how to handle myself. Doing good, really.

Need to find a bigger backpack and matches for in case I get thrown out to the coast AGAIN (I got moved with the update) but I'll work on that tomorrow. At least I still have my food, weapons and stuff.

I was resurrected after I died with a new character I made, so I got all my stuff back. Only 8.5k blood left, but if I find an excess of food, I can regain some.

Komoravo... now to find out where this is, find any good looting spots, try to stay alive until pick up/travel to rendezvous point and make sure that I get 'back in the game' as it were.

Me and my brother are raiding deer stands west of Solnichniy. My name in-game is Noah-PC and bro is Soi. My brother has a AKS-74 Kobra, and I have an ALICE pack. We're pretty well equipped.
You are at the other end of the coast. Directly south-west across the map. Use the map linked above.
I hunted a rabbit, it was really fun.

Solnechniy, IIRC, is far to the north at coast, while Komarovo is 'near' Cherno and Bolota.

Hunted a boar, lots of meat.

Chop some wood in forest with hatchet and if you have matches - make a campfire, there you can cook meat, it will restore 800 blood, instead of ~200-300. Don't forget to extinguish fire, since you CAN'T make another one, while it's still burning.

Yep, we got all that stuff. We're coordinating servers for a barbecue.

If anyone happens to spawn near Balotta or Komarovo, I'm at the latter still since part of our group died overnight somehow and we plan to raid Cherno.

Got quite a story to tell.
We did some successful looting, we were really well off.
Then, we decided to go gung ho with hatchets. After a few successful attacks, bro broke his leg and we both lost a lot of blood.
We need help, but only if it isn't too far out of the way.
We are approximately at these coordinates on the DayZDB map, west beside a road from Solnichniy.

I've heard Cherno is the most dangerous city because of high player encounters.

Just got given a brilliant idea for easy scavving if you're in a group - works best in small towns/villages.

• Have one player use a lee enfield
  
• shoot the enfield into any zombie visible
  
• run like fuck
  
• have your team scavvy the town from the other end while zombies chase you.
  

Zombie slaps directed to your midsection sometimes cause your femurs to BREAK IN HALF. You're good for it as long as you have morphine. Morphine fixes it. That's right, fixes it. Oh, this game.
