S4 Episode 18 Maud Pie

Nobody else has made one of these, and while probably unnecessary in the long run, I'm making this.

Outside of my gushing over the Earth Pony love from this episode, the lesson rings true for me. It's not always a good idea to attempt to have friends mix cause they won't always find common ground and get along. It's a lesson I've learned and had to relearn many times. Like two years ago when we was just getting the Steam group started and was playing MvM on Fridays. I had my friend Kidneyfail in the lobby and the first person from here to join was Rum. Seeing Kidney and just assuming she was on the up and up on Project Horizons and it's in-jokes, I can only imagine his thought process being "Moody reads PH, this is a friend of Moody's, Kidneyfail -> Kidney-> Liver-> Blackjack's liver -> Dues" and without warning let out a "CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNT!" And Kidney left the lobby. Obviously Rum didn't mean any offensive but had forgotten that joke or not, having somebody yell out( or in this case All Cap type) cunt isn't okay without warning.

I got everything cleared up after that because obviously she's willing to play with the group as a whole and isn't mad at Rum but she doesn't go out of her way to talk to anybody unless I'm present.. But my point is that the episode is right in that cause because you're friends with different people doesn't mean they'll be friends with each other right away, especially when forced to interact with each other like Rum and Kidney or the rest of the Mane 6 and Maud. This is why I don't try to mingle my high school friends with college buddies, or ya'll with other online groups in a forceful manner. Ya'll have played with some of my friends like UVX and Fourthman in TF2, but I don't try to force ya'll to be friends.

That all said, I have successfully had different groups of friends becomes friends with each other when I didn't try to force it and they did have common ground to bond over. Conventions are a great equalizer and just hanging out to get some food and coming across some friends while with others has worked out okay with me.


Other than a great lesson that hit well with me, I love Maud haha. She's a great foil to everybody haha. Her subdued demeanor obviously puts her opposite of Pinkie, her interest and knowledge of rocks contrast her with both Twilight, Applejack, and Fluttershy, dark and dreary style to Rarity's color and fashion as well as to Rainbow Dash other than Maud's like of desire to win. Also, Earth Pony love. Rainbow Dash was once again shown up by an Earth Pony, and the whole group was dumbfounded by her speed and strength at the end there. One could argue she was only able to demolish the boulder because her whole world is rocks, including her Cutie Mark, but only an Earth Pony could do so easily. 

So.. thoughts?

I have to wonder where Pinkie Pie got a German Pickelhaube. Guess it adds credibility to Iron's headcanon?

Family heirloom maybe? Did some digging and Maud is "Old Germanic name that means "might" or "strength".
Maud could also be short for Muadlin which means "weak emotional" apparently.

Curses! I wanted to see some interaction between Spike and Maud when it came to stones and gemstones.
Also kinda irritated that the other five kinda just derped when they saw Aggro Crag falling down. Darn it Twilight you should have Telekinesis or at least Teleport. Eh I know it's to show off Maud being awesome, but still. Also liked Maud for being irritated but then comforting Pinkie first after the incident. Dawwww.

Really? No, I didn't! :D

It seems like the whole group, including Maud, was slightly dumbstruck before they went to move. And they all went at the same time, but Maud was just a bit quicker to the point of leaving them in the dust and leaving them completely dumbstruck. The group could have gotten there quicker for sure, without going through the course in fact, but I'm willing to let it slide for Maud running off big sister instinct and protection.
