News from FIMfiction[Poll]

Has everybody else heard the news from the new site owner over at fimfiction.net? Link to relevant blog post.

Apparently, they're not going to take any more stories involving Humans. It could just be an April Fools Day joke, but Poultron has claimed that it isn't and the timing of the announcement is merely an unfortunate coincidence. I'm still riding the fence until tomorrow on whether or not it is, but if it is a joke, than it's a bad one, and if it isn't, than Fimfiction could be looking at serious backlash from its userbase.

But the fact that it might or might not be a joke is not what I want to discuss. What I want to discuss is what you think about them banning Human fics on the site.

I'm also adding a poll to get a general summary of what the community thinks.

I don't approve.
I generally don't personally enjoy human in Equestria stories, but I've liked a couple of the ones I've read. But some people really like them and it seems fucked up to stop them from being put up.
Honestly, I hope it is a joke (no matter how bad of one it is) because it's a popular side of the fandom that some people really do enjoy. Just because some people don't like them doesn't mean they should be completely disallowed. Seems like a pretty bullshit decision in my opinion (the latest in a line of recent shitty decisions from the site staff...)

Then there are the 'Gold Accounts'. Linky.

The gold accounts are a serious thing. Like that post said, they're just testing them out right now on random accounts to work out any bugs. Incidentally, I was a lucky recipient of one the gold account statuses.

Also, EqD isn't reporting on it because they're doing their own April Fools Day thing. Did I ever tell you how much I hate this Holiday?

And I fully agree on April Fools Day. I hate it so much.

The first part of your statement might be true, but the second part isn't. I looked through the comments and spotted several other people with the gold account insignia.

Really? When I look through everyone is saying how they got it, but I can only see mine... strange.

Even if it is true (I'm taking ALL news today with a massive quantity of salt), I don't support the idea.

Apparently every site member with a User ID ending in a 0 got a real temporary gold membership while everyone else just sees themselves as having gotten a gold membership.

If I understand it right, everyone see their own account as a gold one, that's for sure. And the "global gold accounts" have been given to everyone whose ID ends with zero.

As for the general topic at hand... If you ask me, Knighty's "resignation post" was so full of ridiculousness that I wouldn't believe anything from that post onwards until April 1 ends. Poultron saying that it's merely a coincidence is exactly what one'd expect them to say on April 1.

In case such changes would truly come to pass, I'd cosider it a rash decison that is against everything the show itself promotes, and it would only serve to damage the site in the long run. Not to mention there are way more controversial topics in PonyFics than humans. Banning stories full of pointless gore (for example) is one thing, banning one entire potential branch of stories that can go in various directions is short-sighted bullshit.

Well, as expected, Human fics have not been banned. And the Gold Accounts are gone as well (at least for now).

The good thing from a site's owner perspective with the 1st of April,

is that it allow to test the water for some changes without much fears of the consequences.
