Come, now, he's French. irrelevant insults are just how his kind communicate.

Eh, it was a little interesting to me, but I didn't exactly enjoy it. Got too annoyed by the clunky dialogue that usually results from starting a story and the author/narrator/whatever feels some intense need to try explaining a bunch of background and establish character relationships right off the bat.
So yeah, don't think I'll be watching any more of it.

Okay, now I have to ask... exactly what is 'scat' supposed to be, and when the fuck did it show up?

'Scatting' is, in music, the random noises that singers make (be-dop-bop-boopidy bop and such) that they use to help fit the lyrics to the rhythm
'Scat' is, in biology, shit. It came up due to offhanded mentions of the Human Centipede where people are sown ass-to-mouth and forced to eat each others' 'scat'

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Welp, I saw The Conjuring. This is in spoilers for a reason.
- Thoughts on The Conjuring:
- I thought it was a fucking preview until ten minutes in. There's a family moving into a house that's obviously haunted as all Hell (because it's old and in New England, so it HAS to be haunted). Then a man and a woman are giving lectures about hauntings and shit, who I thought were the family in the future until thirty minutes in when the two couples met. Anyways, at the start the family dog won't go in the house. Then at night it spends barking until it turns up dead in the morning. Yeah, if a dog is freaked out about something, good idea to GET OUT. And birds keep flying into the side of the house and killing themselves. The clocks stop at 3:07 AM. The youngest brat finds a music box, where she sees "Rory" (kid who's witch-possessed mother kills a hundred something years ago). They get the second couple, who are ghost hunters, to come over and check things out. The woman, a medium, starts seeing spooky shit all over the goddamn place. So they set up cameras and UV lights and religious symbols to intentionally piss off something they know has already pushed people down stairs and possessed children to go bang their heads on a cupboard. Reminds me of South-Park Steve Erwin. "I'm gonna jam my thumb in its butthole!" The wife of the guy who owns the house gets possessed and things turn shitty real fast. Sheriff Skeptic leaves his fucking loaded shotgun sitting in the same room where they attempt an exorcism. The woman starts puking and thrashing until they cuff her to a chair under a blanket where she goes full ape-shit. She escapes and goes after her youngest kid, trying to kill her with scissors in the walls of the house. The clairvoyant woman puts her hand on the possessed woman's head and uses the power of love or some bullshit to expel the demon and everything turns out okay in the end because fuck actually killing someone that hasn't died centuries earlier. The whole last act I was waiting for Rory or the ghost maid (yeah there's a ghost maid) to step in and fight the demon, but no. No fucking epic ghost-fight (it was established that Rory was at least trying to hide the youngest kid from the demon who possesses mothers), just the power of love and sunshine works where a damn exorcism and holy water doesn't. And the demon-possession comes about because some woman went crazy in the 1700's, kills her week-old infant, climbs a tree, proclaims herself to Satan and curses anyone who tries to take her land, and promptly hangs herself (at 3:07 AM). Some stuff about her killing other people on the land that was divided up and auctioned off. And about halfway through there's also some shit about the people who lived there and died being related to someone hung in the Salem witch trials and a possessed doll named "Annabelle" that somehow has relevance and freaky shit happening at the clairvoyant's house (who keeps cursed items all locked together in a room in a house he raises a family in, and random times in the story he goes and gives lectures to college kids.
There's some creepy scenes, a good use of jump-scares (sometimes stringing them together or after you thought the occurrence had finished), but large parts came off as rather stupid. Okay first-act, for the most part a good second act, third act being great until the very end where they use the power of motherly-love to defeat a witch-demon bent on killing everyone. Since I only paid five dollars (and snuck in a godly amount of snacks under my shirts, including a bottle of iced tea) to see it, I didn't mind, but as my buddy put it: "I wouldn't have paid more than five bucks to see it."

I think I mentioned this a few weeks ago when I saw it, but me and my friends laughed more than anything during the film. Me and my friend Darren, especially, just predicted every 'twist' and pointed out that if anyone in this movie had any sense (Burn the house down and fucking run) the movie would be over in about ten minutes.

Ummm... arson? You can't really solve the problem of arson with arson. Unless for some reason you can get the fires to cancel out each other.

Firefighters actually do just that. They use one controlled fire to suck away oxygen and material for the out-of-control fire to feed on.

I know that, but that's more for fighting forest fires and the like. It's kinda hard to put out a house fire with more fire, and while I know it includes any fire started with ill intent arson is always "setting somebody's house or building on fire" in my mind.

Who said one has to use fire to destroy the house? We have dynamite for that. Even better if the explosive sticks are decades old and you happen to have shaky hands.

@Fire
Guys, we should really stop arson around like this.
@The Conjuring
Sounds kinda like Insidious, then. I feel like blaming Stephen King for all the horror media that have fantastic first and second acts, and even great third acts... but which then manage to somehow cock everything up by the end nonetheless. =P

Eh, I liked Insidious. The fact that it was willing to explore what ghosts were, rather than just "ghosts are bad because reasons" actually was quite intriguing, in my opinion

I want a movie where good ghosts fight demonic spirits with a family trapped in the middle trying to understand what the hell is going on.

I want a movie where the family shows some common sense.

I use Chrome, like a true pro.
Well, like a not-pro-at-all who got sick of IE but didn't want to take more than five minutes to make a decision.

Since I made an 'entry' post about it (let's go with that), I might as well follow up with an update.
- Grim topic ahead:
- My dad has what they call a herniated stomach, which in this case means that his stomach has been twisted up through his diaphragm into his chest cavity and is now putting pressure on his heart and lungs. He's having surgery later today to have it fixed, but since he's 84 and has a bad heart, he likely won't survive. Even if he does survive, he has either a malignancy or a cancer in his bladder. To put things bluntly he is dead either way, because he won't go through with the chemo to treat it.

Iron, all I can say is that I hope that whenever he passes, it's an easy and relatively painless one. While I hope he get's better, it doesn't sound like that's likely.
