However the article fails to mention this from what I see.

Needless to say destroying an entire star system and potentially the ship is bad. Since it appears though that more energy is put in the longer you are in warp you could avoid the problem by making short jumps as opposed to one long journey.

Of course none of this is actually known, it's really all theory just like the warp drive itself.
