So currently I'm trying my hand at vector art. This is the original piece I'm working off, which is my own design.


This is the first piece of progress I recorded.


And this is the latest bit.



So, what do people think so far?
Still got a ways to go, outlining the tail, mane and wings - and then colouring and such, but yeah. Thoughts?
Hell, I've even sorted out the colour set for the eyes.

I think it looks pretty good for a first time/starting out. Naturally there's room for improvement. Like practicing on the eyes. I don't know but as soon as I saw it I couldn't help but think of "MY BRAND!"

If you don't have a tablet of some sort I'd strongly recommend investing in a sketchbook and a mechanical pencil. Then if you have a scanner taking up the veggie 55 method. Using a mouse alone for art is not something I would recommend. 

If you're asking advice on the coloring/vectoring process alone I have a friend that usually does that stuff for me. If you want I could ask him to take a look at it.

That original piece of mine is quite old now. It's not what I'm focusing on exactly.
I'm using it as a template for a new piece, which yes, is essentially going to be the same picture, but being a vector it's going to be much smoother, no colour fill issues and hopefully 100x nicer looking.
The eyes won't be an issue like they were before, either.

I get really OCD whenever I use a photomanipulation program, and I'm not exactly pro at them, so I always used to end up editing stuff on a per-pixel basis when it came to coloring and stuff. All that changed when the cloning tool nation attacked.

But seriously, when I finally figured out how to use that in GIMP, it was glorious.

Drawing tablets are what you're thinking of Swicked. Some artist I follow was talking about a relatively cheap one she uses which apparently works fairly well for her.
