It was a happy day, the birds were singing, there wasn't a cloud in sight, and the warm, loving embrace of the sun could be felt everywhere. It was as if this day had been specifically made for Pinkie. This had been the day that she decided she was going to throw a party for Twilight finally getting one of her books published. She had been trying for years to write a perfect book that had concluded the odds and unends of magical history. She had done a lot of extensive research that had required her to be away from the rest of the group for long periods at a time, but now she was back! Pinkie bounced excitedly as she moved throughout the house, hanging up streamers, blowing up balloons, and filling the punch bowl with her special punch. Tonight would be the perfect ending to such a magnificent day. She could hardly wait for the sun to fall and for the festivities to begin. The thought of her friends and her finally having a party that included all of the six was the happiest thing that had been in her mind since Twi's departure. As she bounced thorughout the house, a loud knocking came upon the door, yanking Pinkie from her thoughts. She smiled and bounced to the door, wondering who it was. "Just a second! I'll be right there!" exclaimed the overjoyed Pink pony. She bolted towards the door and opened it to see a familiar face smiling at her. "Twilight!" the pink earth pony screamed before nailing her with the strongest, warmest, most heart-felt and loving hug she'd ever given.
"Haha, hey Pinkie!" said Twilight as she returned the hug and light tapped Pinkie, signalling her to politely let her stand up. Pinkie reliquished Twilight from her arms and began bouncing with excitement at the sight of one her bestest friends in-front of her. Twilight smiled, happy to see that the pink pony had not changed one bit during the time of her abscence. She looked at Pinkie Pie and asked politely, "Hey Pinkie, what time is your party? I wouldn't want to miss it!". She ended the sentence with a laugh and a smile. Pinkie Pie stopped bouncing for the first time since she'd been awake this morning and thought. She hadn't really planned a distinguished time for the party, she just knew that it would be at nighttime and that there would be a slumber party afterwards with all of her best friends. She quickly flipped through the schedule she had memorized in her head and picked a convienient time.
"Seven o'clock tonight!" she said, not able to hold back the bubbly, happy feelings that welled within her stomach. Twilight smiled and told Pinkie that she was looking forward to the party and that she would leave her to go prepare for it. Pinkie smiled and waved at the purple unicorn before yelling, "See ya later Twilight! Don't forget to tell Dashie and them I said hi!". With that, she turned around, bounced into the house, closed the door and continued to bake the cake and prepare the house for the party later.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pinkie Pie dashed through the house, leaving a pink blur trailing her tail as she finished all of the preparations for the party. She was exceptionally exuberent as the thoughts of her friends arriving at her house for a good old-fashioned Pinkie Pie Party reverberated through her mind. Her mane and tail felt especially bushy as she reached a level of happiness that could only be rivalled by the time she had seen her first Sonic Rainboom that transformed her. Her heart raced as the clock ticked down, the time ebbing away so slowly. What were only minutes seemed to be an eternity, the slowness of the time passing was astonishing to Pinkie. She stared as the second hand ticked, slowly, ever-so slowly at towards the wrap up of the last few seconds before seven. Ding! Ding! Ding! The clock rung out at the second hand stuck its final second, ending the time that her friends would be here. Almost instantaneously, a knock came upon the door. Pinkie bounced, spun, and darted to the door in one motion, too overfilled with happiness to contain it. She opened the door as was not greeted by her friends however. What did stand on her doorway was a stallion in a large, black trench coat and a fancy looking hat. The sight of this mare stopped Pinkie's happiness completely, the aura around him just seemed to kill every piece of happiness that manifested itself within' Pinkie, as well as nearby parts of her home. Politely, Pinkie asked the man, "What are you here about? I didn't expect any visitors to my party.". The stallion grabbed a letter from within his coat and handed it to Pinkie, the immeadiately turned around and walked away. Pinkie felt an air of caution flood the room and she looked at the note from the mysterious stranger that had just showed up on her doorstep and murdered her lovely mood. Inquizzitavely, she opened the note and read it.
"Dear Pinkie Pie,
I am sad to inform you that at exactly 5:30 PM, November 6, your friend Twilight Sparkle was struck by a magical spell from an unknown location. She is now being held in an Intensive Care Unit until released by the doctors. We do not know the true severity of the situation, and further, we cannot guarentee that your friend Twilight will survive through the week. We would strongly advise you to at least go to see her before she undergoes the surgery this coming Friday. We are sorry that this letter was delivered on such short notice and hope that you can forgive us and that you understand.
Sincerely,
..."
The note ended there. Pinkie was near crying when she had read that her bestest, smartest friend Twilight might not live to see another week. The thought of her dissapearing from her life forever was not something that Pinkie could bear to have. After all, Twilight was almost like a big sister to Pinkie, always giving her advice, comforting her when nobody else could, showing up to all of her parties, she could even stand to be around Pinkie when she was in one of her "Bouncing Modes". Pinkie couldn't stand losing another family member after her father had passed away. There were a lot of dark times in the pink ponie's life that she didn't really talk about to anyone, but losing her father, who she hadn't known very well but had still been an extremely big part of her life, was heart breaking. When that happened, her mane and tail lost their normally bushy, happy self and flattened, becoming a straightened pink mane and tail, devoid of life. Her coat seemed to shine less and her smiles seemed to be more distant that week, as if everything about the pony had resided within' her father's life. This was not something she could manage to go through again, so she immeadiately galloped upstairs, dressed her self appropriately, and packed some baked goods before grabbing her umbrella and leaving the large gingerbread house. As soon as she closed the door, she knew that the trip ahead would be a long and sad one.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sound of the rain splattering against her umbrella was a quite calming one. The serene sound of rain pittering and pattering against her umbrella and the ground make Pinkie calm down and walk in peace. Her mind seemed to be momentarilly at reast as the wind whistled through the trees and the leaves rustle furiously. She felt that no matter what anybody would think or say, this was the most beautiful she'd ever seen Ponyville look. The wetness of the rain gave the buildings an almost glossy look, like when you cover a batch of backed goods in some plastic wrap to preserve them. The sight of it all made the pony want to just find a spot in the forest and lie there, listening to the calm sounds that Equestria seemed to be providing for her to sooth her restless mind. Somehow, some way, Pinkie felt as if there were someone above who was watching over her and trying to cheer her up, or to at least drown out the depression that welled within' her chest. The feeling of having someone like that made Pinkie Pie feel even more at peace, as if ensuring her that she would be fine no matter what happened, for she had her protector in the sky watching over her. After the surpirsingly short trip through puddles, mud, and wet grass, Pinkie made it to the hospital doors, immeadiately greeted by the sight of her four friends patiently sitting in the waiting room chairs. She walked through the space that had opened up between the sliding glass doors and wiped her hooves off while closing her umbrella before proceeding into the Waiting Room. The first of her friends to notice her was Rainbow Dash, who proceeded over to the pink pony and hugged her. She spoke to her, "Pinkie, I'm so sorry about everything that's happened. I knew we shoulda just taken the main road, Twilight had even said it. It was all my fault for thinking that we had enough time so we could go adventure around before showing up. I hope you can forgive me.". Pinkie could feel warm tears start to trail down the back of her coat as Rainbow held her. She rubbed the pegasus pony's back and rocked her slightly, trying to calm her down.
"It's alright Rainbow, I don't blame you. These things just sort of happen. We can't really plan for them but when they happen, we have to be able to be strong and carry on through them for the sake of Twilight. You are one of the strongest, most courageous pegasus ponies I know, now is the time to show that by just being here and staying by Twilight's side. That's all we can really do now.". Pinkie said to Dash, trying to sooth her and cheer her up. Rainbow looked at her and smiled, knowing that everything that had just come out of her mouth was heart-felt and meant specifically for her. It took her a while to notice the change in Pinkie's mane and tail. She looked at it and immeadiately was reminded of the week when her father had died. She had been so scared for Pinkie, after all, family was very important to her and after she lost her father, it seemed like she was going to try anything to be with him again. She could not stand the sight of having to see Pinkie go through the extreme depression that her mind puts her through after the death of a loved friend of family member. The sight was heart breaking to say the least. The happiest, peppiest pony of them all was also the darkest, saddest, most misunderstood pony of the whole lot of them. She seemed to know this though, that's why she had distanced herself from the rest of them during the week that her father had died. She knew how exceptionally infectous her attitude was on the rest of the group and so she sacrificed her friendship to keep them happy for a while. It was by far one of the bravest, most courageous and friendly acts any of the group had ever seen. She was the life, and without her, the group wouldn't be nearly as close as they were today. Now looking into the eyes of the pony was so difficult, seeing the happiness that had forsaken them and was replaced by a serene, lifeless emotion.
"All of you are here for Twilight Sparkle I assume?" said a hospital tenant as she walked down the hall to the waiting room. All of the ponies answered her with different variations of yes, except Pinkie, who simply nodded her head quietly. The staff member continued to speak, "We are afraid to inform you that we can only allow one of you at a time to see Twilight. Her condition is extreme and we fear she might not make it through the night so we strongly recommend that you say your good-byes. Just a reccomendation though.". She ended with a turn and walked back down the hallway she had arrived from. The group got together and decided who would see her first.
Pinkie stood up and said to the group, "I'll go last, you all can go ahead of me. I don't have a problem with being last to see her.". The group halted their talking and let the words she had just said sink in. The group stared in astonishment as the pony who was usually first to greet, comfort, cheer-up, or welcome anypony was now offering to be the last. They all silently thanked her and decided upon an order. Dash got up and began walking towards Twi's room.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As Fluttershy came down the hall, tears were pouring from her eyes, cascading down her face like waterfalls. The other ponies ran towards her and hugged her, telling her that Twilight would be alright and that everything would be fine soon. Flutters listened to their words and tried to have faith in them, for the sake of cheering up. She knew that what they said was merely the illusion that had wrapped themselves in, but if it made her even remotely happier then she was now, an illusion her life would be. She smiled and walked back with the group and sat down. Pinkie Pie stood up, after seeing everypony walk down the hall, she proceeded, wearing the same bleak, emotionless face she had worn since the moment she set foot in the saddening building. She knocked lightly on the door and opened it, only to be greeted by the sight of her friend attached to a machine that was pumping fluids into her body and badages all around her abdominal area. Pinkie proceeded into the room and closed the door, then pulled up a chair and sat next to Twilight, holding her hoof. Twilight looked over to Pinkie and smiled at her, speaking faintly, "Pinkie, I'm surprised to see that you were the last one to come in. Normally you're one of the first ponies to do something like this, but that's not important now. I wanted to tell you something, something I had never really told you. I love you like a little sister, you're funny, sporadic, loveable, and I loved watching over you and giving you advice. You were sort of like the family I never really had after I moved here. I want to thank you for everything and hope that you will cheer up soon, after all, a sad Pinkie can't throw the best parties, right?". She ended everything with a smile, staring into Pinkie's now sad, crying eyes. The party pony couldn't find any words to say that could even hope to match the emotional impact that Twilight's had. After a little bit, she found them.
"Twi, you've always felt like an older sister to me. You were always there to comfort me when I was sad, you were the one pony who came to me when I needed friends most and helped me get through some of the toughest, most depressing things in my life, and I want to thank you. So, thanks, for everything you've done for me in the time that we've known each other. I'm so happy that Celestia sent you here to become friends with us, otherwise, I can't assure you I'd be sitting right next to you right now. I want to say I love you and that I'll always remember you. I'm not gonna lie to myself and try to say things will be okay, because the look in your eyes tells me they won't, so I wanna say good-bye. As hard as this is for me, I know it has to be done. I love you Twilight, I'll always think of you as family.". With that, she embraced the purple pony. She could feel the life starting to slip away from her, and she knew that Twilight didn't have long. She was going to hold her until she was gone, she was going to be in the arms of her loving sister until she passed away. The familiar feel of warm tears fell down her coat and slid down her tail. She reliquished Twilight for a little and looked at her friend one last time. She smiled at Pinkie.
She spoke very softly, almost in a whisper, "Good-bye Pinkie.". With those words, she was gone. The only true family that Pinkie really had was gone. The realization of this point brought the pony to tears and she walked out of the room and began walking home, leaving her umbrella and being poured down upon by the rain. What had once seemed to be so peaceful now seemed so unsettling and depressing. The pony collapsed to her knees and cried.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the week that followed was filled by a gloomy, sorrowful air that mourned the loss of a very key piece of the city. The stores were closed and most people kept to the confines of their cement and brick walls. All of them were pretty much alone besides four of the five friends that were left after Twi's death. All of them had gotten together and were trying their best to keep each other comforted. All of them except Pinkie. She had taken off out of town without a trace, only leaving a note upon her door that read, "Closed until further notice.". The four were worried about their friend because of the way she had seemed so mentally and emotionally disconnected from all of them in the hospital. Knowing her, the depression and emptiness in her heart was unrivalled by anything she had ever felt before. The friends knew Pinkie and Twilight's relationship, about how they seemed almost like family, and after losing two family members, nobody would be the same. The fact that Twi had died in her arms, exchanging one last loving hug with the pink earth pony did not help to make the situation any better. Everpony sat and hoped, wished, even prayed to Celestia for her safety, hoping that she would make it through the pain and come out alive. As much as nobody would probably believe it, the most capable person to make it through this time was Pinkie.
The cold, wet grass shimmered like a field of emeralds, hypnotically swaying back and forth and the sun shot its rays of light at them. The sight made Pinkie stop walking and just stare at the beauty of it. She had never seen anything that could quite might the beauty of it, wether in pictures or in life. The sun embraced her, bathing her in its warm, gentle glow. As amazing as it all was, it didn't even do so much as dent the walls of sadness and loneliness that surrounded her heart, blocking any sort of happiness from entering. She trudged through the grass and mud, finally spotting what she had wandered cluelessly around for. What was in-front of her was an old, decayed, crumbling dock that hung over a rapid river, the sound drowning out everything else and allowing her to concentrate and reflect upon her thoughts. She walked slowly to the dock and sat on the the very edge, observing the pearl white rapids that flowed beneath her and dampened her hooves with their mist. They looked so soft, so inviting, a part of her wished to slide off of the boards and fall into them. To feel herself pushed and pulled by the current, the water controlling her and stealing her life. The calmness she would feel as she drifted towards her eternal peace. The happiness in knowning that she would see Twi ane her father again. She would hold them and talk to them. The loneliness and depression would be like her body was, washed away. She'd be free from the chains that bound her to this world and only sought to limit her and hold her back. She could party with her friend like the good ol' times and make lots of fun, cool, interesting new friends.
She felt her back hooves slowly begin to push her off into the welcoming water below. Tears welled in her eyes as she thought of her friends that she had left behind in Ponyville. They wouldn't miss her though. As close as she was to them all, she had never really felt quite right with them. She felt like an outcast, an extra piece that they didn't need. She released her tears and she spoke, her voice powering over the monstrous roar of the water, "Bye Fluttershy and Angel. Bye Rarity. Bye AppleJack. Bye Spike and Gummi. Most importantly, buhh bye Dashie. I love you all so much." her voice trailing off as a small section of her flank began to slide off of the dock. She closed her eyes and smiled, thinking to herself, "Don't worry Twilight and Daddy, I'm coming.".
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dash bolted, watching in horror as she saw her friend gracefully and peacefully sliding off of the dock. Tears filled in her eyes as a white aura began to form around her, mimicking her flight position. She fought against it, feeling the wind tear at her mane, feeling it transform it. Then, a burst of colors forming a halo propelled her forward. Rainbows trailed out from behind her as she flew, Pinkie now halfway in the water. She was going to make it. She flew over the current, her rainbow streak reflecting off of the white foam as she grasped Pinkie. She immeadiately reared upwards, yanking her from the deadly jaws of the water that wished to consume her. Twisting around, she flipped Pinkie so that her hooves were pointed towards the earth that they were about to collide with. Rainbow braced herself for the impact as they nailed a mound of soft soil, sending a large puff of dirt flying into the air. Both of the ponies tumbled out of the soil, dirty and exhausted. Dash sat up and looked at Pinkie, silently asking "why?" with her eyes. Pinkie stared blankly at Dash until she spoke. "What was that all about Pinkie? If it weren't for me, you'd probably be dead right now!" the pegasus said, almost yelling at the pink pony.
"I was going where I belong Dashie. I'm not fit to live here like an extraneous piece to an unsolvable puzzle. Even you guys treat me differently then you treat each other, shying away from me, discrediting my thoughtsand ideas. I don't belong on a planet who forsakes and patronizes me. I belong with my family, away from all of the lies and deception that corrupt this place. I want to be with the people that actually cared about me and made me happy. I want to just...s..see my..f...family again." said Pinkie Pie, crying towards the end. The words dug deep into Dash's heart, revealing to her the things she never really noticed. She finally saw what Pinkie Pie was saying. Looking back at all of the years they'd known each other, she saw that Twilight truly did seem to be the only one who actually cared about her. As much as it tore Dash's heart apart to hear this, she knew it was true. It was her friends and her fault for Pinkie's state. Pinkie had almost committed suicide, and it was her fault. She ran to Pinkie and tackled her in a hug, holding her tightly and apologizing to her, telling herthat from now on they'd be like sisters. She even Pinkie promised. For the first time in a week, Pinkie smiled a smile of full of genuine happiness. For what seemed like the first time since Twilight's passing, she wasn't alone.

Re: In Her Arms
First off, wow. Very good in terms of plot and organization. However, as I read through it, I noticed a number of typos such as oink instead of pink, there was perhaps a little too repetitive at times, and once or twice there was a plot error (eg Pinkie walking into the hospital and seeing her five friends, when it should only be four without Twilight.)

Two chapters added today, wrote them during school. I like them a lot, personally, because I've used some actual experiences of mine to write them. Hope you enjoy!

Re: In Her Arms
2 things about the 2 chapters. This is definitely NOT canon Pinkie, but your formatting has improved, I noticed significantly fewer errors and typos and such. Also, is it even possible for a story like this to come to a conclusive end?

Haha, ultimately, yes. A happy end, however, does not exist in this story. I can assure you this will be a quite morbid tale.

Oh, lovely haha :P as much as I realize the anti realism of happy endings, I still think it shouldn't be all bad. A proper balance must in some way be maintained

That I understand. For every negative, some positives must come intoo place to reduce the darkness that clouds the pictures the story paints. I intend to brighten things up with Rainbow's and Pinkie's new relationship. Hope anybody who read will like it (:
