S2 E12: Family Appreciation Day

I am preparing this thread for today's episode. Let discussions begin when the show starts.

a combination of unicorn magic, earth pony technology and a unhealthy amount of dark magic like magnets, dark matter and blood sacrifices.

Also - Granny Smith is best pony.

Well now we have a canon story on how Ponyville was founded.

Did you hear that? That was the sound of thousands of fiction writers weeping. Only their tears can comfort them now.

I like it, first we get rid of celestia is god, now we get rid of fake ponyville origins. Fanon is dying slowly and as long as I can keep calling my background ponies by their names (heartstrings my ass!) I'm fine with this.

Then again, I don't really like fan fiction so, I'm a bit biased.

On topic of episode: I liked it, but these character-centric episodes are starting to bug me, I want more adventures!

Well, dying fanon means dying fanfiction. I'm not a fanfic reader or writer myself, but I know several people who write fanfics. That, and it would be a bummer to see the community's creativity dying down because of canon.

But then again, fanfic writers can always choose to ignore the canon stuff.

Harry Potter fan fiction writers do it all the time...

"Oh Fred died? No, he was just knocked out with dark magic, he's actually alive and well."

I also don't read harry potter fan fiction, but I've seen this around.

Ignoring canon is no fun, exploiting it is better.

I kind of like the character-based story lines. It gives a bit of a background of each ponies and tell about more of their personalities. I hope they do a Luna story about how she became nightmare moon though.

I got to agree with Lyra though. They'll just find a way to exploit it :P.

I enjoy the character based episodes myself, but I too would like to see another full on adventure. Can't leave those hanging. :3

Or at least some indication that the season is headed toward some big event at the end...I miss that element of Season 1

Granny Smith is really funny in this episode. xD
