Avatar , y you no move

I'm not sure, .gif avatars are tricky. I've gotten them to work sometimes, but usually they freeze-frame on me. Funny thing is I've gotten 3 minute long videos to work for it before, so I don't know if it's just the forum can't handle the .gif movement, or if it needs tto be put up a certain way.

Fluttershy's is animated, maybe admin only?
otherwise, I have a fun pinkie pie and twi one...

My avatar is animated and I'm not an admin. .gifs should work by default, but PHPBB3, the software this site runs on, can have difficulty processing them. If you uploaded the gif directly, you might be able to get it to work by uploading it to an image host and then using the image URL.

You may be right about the file size as well. Try a small gif file as a test.

to follow an internet trend (which I don't care for or get):
inb4 lots of people use desktop ponies for avatars.

You nee to paste a link into the "From another site" bar. Any others leave it frozen on the first frame. It's weird I know, but it can be functional for only having the first frame if you only want that part.

Back when I had an animated avatar, it was via an upload. I'm researching into why this would be. My original suspicion was that phpbb3's resize function was only operating on the first frame, as that's what it detected, but then I realized that my old avatar was resized as well. I was also 2kb over the file size limit. I'm still trying to figure out why some animated gifs work and some don't, because finding the differentiating characteristic could point us in the direction of the problem.

Well okay. I'm not much for technical things since I don't exactly lean about software, but all I know is that if you post a link in the "External site" bar, it will not resize it, but it will be animated. Perhaps the resizing only goes for the first frame. So when the resize is complete, it doesn't do the same thing for the other frames. It's only a theory, but it seems to make sense to me.

now how do I make it my avatar , I have tried linking it from photobucket and just uploading it from my computer

try right clicking the image, copy the URL, and try that

The size needs to be reduced in Photoshop.
