S4 E13: Simple Ways

The new episode thread hasn't been made yet so I thought I would make it.

I was wary of Josh Haber since I thought Castle-mania was one of the worst episodes in the series, but he pulled this episode off well in my opinion. 

I thought almost everyone was in character this episode. Rarity having a shallow crush on someone isn't new for her. Just remember Blueblood. AJ and Rarity's interactions were pretty good. I like their dynamic. They are friends through and through, but they enjoy taking potshots at each other. I thought Spike should have objected more to Rarity's crush, but once again he doesn't have a consistent character. At least he still has a degree of sarcastic medium awareness though.

As for the plot I liked it. The impression I got from it was Josh basically taking the piss out of the cliche shallow romance stories of other shows. Just about everyone except for Rarity and Trenderhoof knew how ridiculous the situation was. To me I laughed hardest at the reactions people had to what was happening.

Trenderhoof was a very creepy character to me. He basically stalks AJ the whole episode while being as culturally patronizing as possible. I do like how it was communicated that Applejack found Trender's patronizing and Rarity's  country stereotype offensive.

The only complaints that I have would be that Trenderhoof seemed kind of bland and only there to force the plot and that it was wrapped up too quickly, but I think that is par for the course really.

Overall I'd say it was an enjoyable filler episode. I'd watch it again.

I had caught a brief part of it yesterday with Rarity and Applejack snapping back and forth, and with the start of the episode I thought it was because Granny Smith was on the committee and thus there was an unfair bias involved in picking who was running the show, but as I watched, I saw that wasn't the case.

Gotta love the dynamic between Rarity and Applejack. I admit I'm not much of a fan of the "person A likes person B, but person B likes person C" plots, but eh, can't help what they work with.

Rarity "country" accent and outfit was too funny.

Poor Applebloom. Getting the short end of the stick for the fashion show. But the reveal of Applejack pulling on her Orange side to mess with Rarity was funny as well.

I can't much about whats his name. He was there, he served a point and moved the plot along in his own way. Pretty much the same opinion of a certain character in PH.

So, in answer of Rarity's question of "What does Applejack have that I don't?" Girls got legs haha.

Why would you need to? Rarity certainly doesn't.

I'm not going to lie, Rarity's fake accent made me cringe. On the other hand, Applejack pulled off one hell of a good Southern Bell accent, she was definitely the winner in this episode, although she did have the advantage of actually living in high society while Rarity has only observed farm life from the outside.

Other Random Thoughts on the Episode:
Pinkie must have a side job as a parade balloon.
Trenderhoof is a tool.
Spike is REALLY underappreciated.

I watched this saturday so I might have forgotten a few things by now, "I'd forget my mane if'n it werent attached to mah head"
I absolutely LOVED seeing AJ's Orange side! I remember seeing her and my jaw dropped.
As a huge Rarity fan and a big Spike fan as well, It physically pained me to watch this episode at times.  I want Spike to be appreciated AND seeing Rarity with a ruined mane and stuff was terrifying!  

But, this was a pretty good episode.  I enjoyed Rarity and AJ switching roles a bit (even if Rarity hurt me doing so), and how AJ was able to pull it off having spent time in Manehatten already.
sidenote: I am sure Rarity and AJ are going to be shipped more and more for this episode though.
