Yeah... tardy to the party, here. A bit tired, and a bit... let’s say, feeling a little “mentally loose”. Let’s see where that takes me, eh?
Mood: Quixotic!

Edit from the future: This review turned out to be nothing but jokes and rants, with next to no useful content in-between.
So... yeah. Viewer discretion advised. Not for those that expect a review to review something, I suppose XD

Spoiler:

The quote... is not from the show. But hey, neither did the last one, and I didn’t get it, either. Probably all derived from that popular game I’ve never played.

Err, Glory, what about all the other ponies that might be using the facility? Any medically-trained ponies on-site are probably there because they have other patients. Who are you to dictate who lives or dies?
...oh, right.
Heroes.
Sigh...

Lacunae drinking from the toilet. I would pay to see that, particularly if she was either in her funeral gown or her goddess undergarments. Her luna lingerie. The princess panties and holy hosiery for the particular mare that doesn’t want to wear clothes, nor go naked, but something oddly in-between.
...sometimes I seriously wonder what the hell we are doing to this cartoon.
I’ve thus far settled on “awesome stuff”. :D

“Good. Take my father up to the stasis pods before you go.”
And if they’re all taken, throw all the suckers out. Sucks to be them, but we can’t afford to have them using up all the power while important people are left wanting, eh?
Honestly, is it just implied that the Society isn’t going to use anything here for medical purposes? They came here for them. They are still raiding it to take care of their sick. Medicine is important in the wasteland... especially in a land saturated with enough necromantic voodoo to suck an unshielded health potion dry in minutes.
Also, shouldn’t the enervation be pretty strong in a medical center? I’d figure they’d have plenty of those anti-bug rings, as well as sterilization fields and the like, all to keep the inside as clean as possible. Maybe they just used more conventional methods than glowing green rings, though.

Pegasus and dumped the medical tools in. I envied the tools a tiny bit.
That’s just awful. NOTHING could be used to boil some water and get them properly sterilized? Not that alcohol bathes aren’t standard for medical equipment, but... well, this is whiskey.
In addition, I’d love it if we could throw a ripped-up Blackjack in a bath of the stuff.
Blackjack: “AH! IT BURNS! AND IT’S DELICIOUS!!!”
*later*
P-21: So, Blackjack, was it everything you thought it would be?
Blackjack: No, it was actually very painful.
P-21: But would you do it again?
Blackjack: I... uh...hmmm. Maybe I... Heh, you know what? I think that’s the most difficult question I’ve ever been asked...
P-21: And how many times would you say you were dropped on the head as a child?
Blackjack: ...I don’t remember?
P-21: That’s what I thought.

I saw her move from one tool to the next with her mouth with a deft finesse that matched Rainbow Dash’s flying skills.
You say that like you wouldn’t already know all about her oral acuity.
You know what I’m talking about.
Also, suddenly imagined the rainbow contrail that follows Rainbow Dash’s flying now following Glory’s surgery-ing.
Bonesaw: Would you stop throwing rainbows off everywhere? It’s a hospital, not a disco.
Glory: Yeah? Well... same to you!
Bonesaw: ... is that seriously the best you can do?
Glory: Note to self, get Rampage to teach me better comebacks...

She bit a bottle and carefully trickled the alcohol over her forehooves.
But she surgeries with her mouth. Shouldn’t she be wiping blood off her mouth and face? Or does she start wielding them with her hooves at some point?
In any case, I imagine the scene a little more like...
Blackjack: Glory, stop drinking all my whiskey.
Glory: No, you don unner... udder... utter? Utter stan. Itz fer sterilizaling...
Blackjack: I know I’m not the expert here, but I think your mouth is probably sterile enough by now.
Glory: Pfft, you soun like my dad. Anyway, back to the grind...
Blackjack: Come on, Lacunae, move it! I don’t think Glory can keep this up much longer!
Lacunae: I’m drinking this toilet water as fast as I can!
Blackjack: ...ah. Carry on, then.

Glory!” I shouted, and she jumped, the bottle falling from her mouth and puddling at her feet.
Blackjack: No! How could she? The waste! The tragedy! Oh woe is... focus, Blackjack, focus. There will be plenty of time to wiggle your way over there to suck on that sweet, sweet whiskey and broken glass once Glory’s off with her father...

Three pages in, four skits. I am RUINING this dramatic scene!

Player: Echo.
Well, it’s about damn time!
(kidding, of course)
Also: so, Smiling Jack is supposed to be bones or skin? Because the dealer fluctuates between those two rather than keeping to this picture.
...unless that’s supposed to be an aspect of his character in the game.

Blackjack, they’re talking about replacing your legs, not your entire body. Take a chill pill.
Oh, and I love Somber’s methods of leveling up Blackjack without her actually gaining levels.

It isn’t always about you, Blackjack. I could hear P-21’s soft words in my ears.
Blackjack: Ah! Stop it, that tickles!
P-21: Oh, sorry.

I don’t want Glory to have to break out a wrench set when we make love.”
Triage: Oh, no no no, I mean... why use a bolt when a simple thumbscrew will suffice?
Rover: Dog will fit Pony with universal adaptor. Give whole new meaning to “screw anything that moves”.
Blackjack: ...please stop, you two are seriously terrifying me.
Triage: Oh come on, Blackjack, you know we’re joking!
Rover: Ah, yes. Good joke. Dog will just set this box aside, then...

Random side comment: Lightning Dust, the pony from the recent Rainbow Dash episode? I think it was Lightning Dust, anyway... I don’t, by any means, try to press for Somber to adapt to the ever-changing official canon, but I hope he can use her. She’s a great character for this world. I can easily, EASILY imagine Goldenblood picking her up and using her to some degree in the OIA given Rainbow Dash would have locked the poor mare out of advancing in the armed forces, having decided the mare wasn’t trustworthy enough to put any ponies working underneath her. I mean, really, Rainbow Dash just stood by as she was apparently kicked out of the Thunderbolts. No argument from her, perfectly justified punishment in her eyes. Lighting Dust’s driven and has one real skill set... the same one as Rainbow Dash.

How COULDN’T he use someone as fast as Rainbow Dash, with even greater ambition, which was locked out of any official position that could really test her capacity? Really push her limits at the one thing she’s ever been particularly good at? That was willing to do anything to impress the wonderbolts and earn her spot in their number?

I kind of wish Somber could even replace whichever OIA liaison that was going to be in the MoA (I know he gave us the mare’s name, but that was outside the fic and I don’t think we’ve seen her within it yet) with Lightning Dust under a special commission.
Such a recruitment would have put Rainbow on edge, easily. If not a liaison, she could at least prove to be a very powerful distraction. In all honesty, I think Lightning Dust has a much stronger case against Rainbow Dash than Trixie ever had against Twilight.

Trixie lost her wagon, sure. It was clearly an accident perpetrated by a couple of annoying colts, though. She could never blame Twilight for that, at the very least. Twilight did her best never to show up Trixie and only really revealed her power to save them all from the Ursa Minor. She never even gloated or seemed happy Trixie had been driven off.

By comparison, Rainbow Dash went behind Lightning Dust’s back and got her kicked from the program just because, what, Rainbow hurt herself following Dust through that one gap? And her friends were in a hot air balloon up at the wonderbolts course, where no one expected any non-fliers to be? No one got hurt and Lightning accomplished her given objective. Spitfire even, originally, praised her creativity in completing her objective and setting yet another academy record. She could have been a great wonderbolt. One of the best, easily, and her records still stand at the academy even after she was kicked out.

Rainbow entirely betrayed her new friend, partner and leader. Lightning Dust thought Rainbow had her back... and she absolutely did not, working behind her to get her removed from her position at every stage. “But I had the fastest time!” indeed. In Lightning Dust’s hooves, I’d be beyond pissed at her... particularly, again, if Rainbow blackballed her from any further leadership positions within the wonderbolts, shadowbolts and military in general.
And I can absolutely see Rainbow Dash doing that. Lightning nearly hurt her friends and didn’t seem to be remorseful for it. In all honesty, I wouldn’t have been, either... she did what SAID she was going to do, Dash HELPING her do it, and had those non-fliers not been there everything would have turned out great! In her position I’d just be a little more careful the next time so I didn’t lose control of the tornado, working under the assumption that there was always the risk that some stupid non-fliers would pop up out of nowhere in the middle of everything at the most inopportune time.
Rainbow would interpret Lightning’s being not particularly remorseful as her not valuing the lives of other equines, particularly Rainbow’s friends, and would absolutely make the effort to screw her over from ever doing anything great ever again.
There’s no way Goldenblood wouldn’t know about something like that. He knows everything about the mane six, for the sake of manipulating them better. Someone like Lightning would be a perfect storm of an OIA operative. Someone with nowhere else to go, an easily-exploitable grudge and massive potential.

Again, by no means should Somber need to use her, but I think he could and it’d be AWESOME!!!

“Sweetie Bot, 2.0,”
I suddenly feel awkward parody-canoning her into Blackjack...

“He then looked down at Applejck’s green escort and chuckled.”

I know he’s being arrogant, but does anyone really think Horse tried to get Applejack killed? I’m pretty sure his personality is just that of a perverted Sanguine... genius asshole, but never given power higher than a head researcher or something... basically, still far from the top.
...he also has to be smart enough to know what would happen if one of the ministry mares died.
You know what’d be hilarious? If he, Sanguine and Glue (Glue was a ghoul, right?) had all been “college buddies”. Same frat or dorm or something; a nice little asshole society :P

A few green lights along the lift’s hanging rails were the only source of steady illumination, struggling to light the massive space around us. The green glow was augmented by countless motes of ghostly white light circling in the middle of that great space. Along the periphery of the expanse were long, jagged blades of silver jutting hundreds of feet into the mile-wide cavern. Green crackling energy arcs flickered and danced along the edges like a distant lightning storm. A swarm of tiny humming dots swirled and flickered around the silver spires like a metallic mist.
I love these moments when you paint a scene, Somber. Gorgeous stuff... simply gorgeous.
‘Tokomare’ <-- what the monk does that mean? What’s the base name this pun off from?

Another zebra that doesn’t rhyme? Honest, I don’t mean to whine, but why is it, would you say, that Zecora speaks in quite that way? Is it her tribe? Can we meet it? Or is it some archaic bit? I just really love her every word and its complete absence is absurd.

“You saw the Tokomare. Horse’s marvelous mechanical monstrosity.”
It was more than merely monstrous, it was a massively malevolent magical maelstrom of metaphysical might!
I am dumb X)
This is all very interesting. An infinite power source, eh? Was Trottenheimer involved? He’s the only one we’ve seen so far to connect starmetal with moonstone. What’s more, it was a secret project, wasn’t it? Could he of discovered the connection?
I wonder if there’s any chance Lightning Flash is the one that brought him in. He’s clearly found a way to channel the two energies into a form that, while it taints the user, somehow does no damage to the gun itself. Despite the silver bullets being bullets, the way they annihilate while their power is also channeled into protection spells that prevent the user from being annihilated themselves means, to me, that the gun itself must be made of something truly remarkable.
It’d be awesome if, so close to the beginning, we met the guy who made all of this possible.

I nodded, pulled out one of Glory’s cyberpony cakes, and began to eat.
From where? You’re entirely naked and you left your gear... unless they carted it to the table with you, I guess.
Freaking hammer space.

...I’m suddenly imagining the sand dogs hiring Glory to cater parties for them and the ponies from that community they are adjacent to.
Rather amusing X)

On that long-unused mattress, we both reminded each other that, as bad as things could get, there was still bliss to be found in each other. It might not have seemed like the best time for intimacy, my body still repairing itself and she -
CRASH
Glory: ...uh, Rover? Is there any chance you could reinforce a bed for us, too?
Rover: Pony must be joking. Pony is bad at it.
Glory: Would you do it for a cyber snack?
Rover: ...maybe for two.

Chapel, forlorn and lost, seemed somehow smaller and lonelier in the rain with so many Crusaders inside the buildings or at the hospital.
Are the Crusaders USUALLY out and about in the rain? Last time it rained one of them ended up dying, after all, due to a tragic case of bored-somber :P

Random side note, does anyone else kinda hope that phoenix-pony finds some way to come back? When we last saw her she’d blown up and reformed half-stuck in the drain, like Gemini. I imagine her doing so one last time after Blackjack leaves, one last mustering of strength, and not immediately reforming... just flowing down the drain it eventually leading to a broken pipe somewhere, her muddy, fractured remains managing to eventually drift near enough to each other to reform, ignite, reform, ignite, and eventually come back... almost entirely intact, though very weak.
She finds out about Chapel and, eventually, goes there... and meets Precious, who talks her into staying, much like Scotch had for her. I’d just like it if, one day, Blackjack came back to Chapel and that mare was just standing there.
Blackjack: Oh, uh... hi, phoenix... pony thing.
Phoenix-pony thing: My name is Posy.
Blackjack: Oh, right... how’s it going?
Posy: Could be better.
Blackjack: Are you going to kill me now?
Posy: ...
Precious: *glare*
Posy: Sigh... no.
P.S.
Blackjack: Is it just me, or do all my allies start out as enemies?
Scotch: I didn’t!
Blackjack: Yeah, but you’re basically the exception to everything.

In all honesty, I thought that mare was cool, even for a no-name villain. She seemed fairly level-headed, particularly when compared with gorgon, deus, brass or psychoshy, and appeared to just be in a bad situation, much like Precious was. Given how often ponies that have been saved die either immediately or within a few days, it’d be cool for a pony that died to just have somehow survived. I think Blackjack would really appreciate knowing that, somehow, one more pony she thought she’d had to kill had somehow lived... somewhat like her experience with Boing, but with the pony turning out to be okay instead of crippled for life.
I am 100% sure this would never happen in the fic... I mean, that mare is dead. Very, very dead.
It’s just a nice thought, to me.

equanimity
All badinage aside, can you tell that Somber is an English teacher? XP

I needed one of Glory’s cyberpony cakes… if only Rover hadn’t scarfed them all.
Rover: Dog resembles that remark!
Triage: ...do you mean you resent that remark?
Rover: *smacks his stuffed belly* Dog knows what Dog says! Dog have strong grasp of linguistics, unlike Pony!
Triage: Why am I still hanging out with you?

Blackmail and sneaky tricks followed him around like a fart.
Girl, you put the “ass” in “class”.

Goldenblood didn’t answer for a moment, then he said in a hiss, “I meant ten thousand tonnes of moonstone. At optimal ratio.”
Hello, Horizons.
It’s the dawn of the third day, I hope you have all the masks...

...and again, if Trottenheimer was the one to discover the connection between starmetal and moonstone, putting the idea of Project Horizons into Goldenblood’s head in the first place, let alone contributed at all substantially to that project... that’d be amazing.
Instead of killing himself because it was “just” the Equestria, he killed himself because he thought it was soon going to be the end of the entire world, too.

Peppermint? A pony, a baby or a drug?
“Why not both?”
...you need to go away, little girl.

“I am so glad that you’re on my side,” I replied with a smile, making him scowl… and blush… as he muttered about me being an idiot.
You know, it is pretty funny that, given time to prepare, P-21 is probably capable of taking out the most bad guys and dealing the most damage of anyone in the group.
He’s like their batman.

“We did. She wasn’t looking for cake. She was looking for you,” he said.
Boo: Cake mare! Cake mare! Where are you? I didn’t mean what I said! I was overreacting! I’m sorry! Don’t abandon meeeeeeeeee...
P-21: Calm down, Boo! Calm down! Have, some cake! Is that better!?
Boo: No! You don’t understand what we mean to each other! It’s more than just cake... it’s love!
P-21: Blackjack will be back soon! Stop.. stop! Stop kicking me, already!
Boo: Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaare!!!!!
*later*
Rampage: Heh, how does one get beat up by a half-starved runt of a mare with the IQ of a dog?
P-21: I don’t know, how does one get a grenade bouquet shoved up her ass?
Rampage: ...I don’t know; haven’t tried that one before. Wanna give it a go?
P-21: ...just get out of my face.
Rampage: Oh, come on, baby, don’t be like that! Come back! Give us a chance!
Scotch: *falling into step with P-21* ...Rampage? Really? I mean, she’s a lot more fun than Lacunae or Glory, but hardly the maternal figure we’re going for, here.
P-21: How is it, exactly, that you mares are capable of making my life MORE stressful when we’re NOT being shot at?!
Scotch: You know you love it.
P-21: *facehoof* SMACK! “...ow.”
Scotch: Yeah, you should really stop doing that...

Wait, I get that there is a betting pool for Blackjack ruining her body, but what does “That’s not it,” mean? Did P-21 seriously bet against Blackjack trying to make friends with Deus?
...oh, they don’t know Deus is in it. Still, betting against Blackjack trying to make peace with an enemy? That’s idiotic...

By the way, why does the dealer show up immediately for Scotch, even when he has no intention of speaking to her? He doesn’t do that with Blackjack. Clearly he can manifest if he chooses to, even if it’s difficult, but does he manifest when he doesn’t even want to? What the frick is controlling these appearances?

This whole interaction with Deus is really comical... particularly Rampage jumping up on Blackjack like some kinda platform. Very nice work from P-21, I like his assertiveness and deadly seriousness. Rampage’s quip is cute and all, but considering she’s my least favorite, I gotta hold it against her.
It feels like P-21’s gonna be doing more things from now on. Taking better charge and being a guardian to both his child and his allies. I hope, one day, Rampage acknowledges he’s no longer the screw-up hanger-on she’s always seen him as.

Yay, more post-apocalyptic Psalm-watching. How wonderful.
Green snow, though? I’d of expected black. The ash from the fires, the dust blown into the air... I know balefire burns green but I’m not sure I care for how it’s colorizing this snow.

The emaciated red earth pony mare swayed in the doorway of one of the wagons. As her eyes rested on me, she immediately smiled in relief. “Oh, Operative Psalm. About time somepony useful came along.” She turned and trotted back inside the sky wagon, and I followed. The once expensive skywagon was now a squatter’s shack.
Holy shazbot, is that Garnet?

“Damn Redoubt is sealed. Can you fucking believe it? Somepony got here before us… all of us… and locked it up tight!”
Good guy Goldenblood...

“Who the fuck do you think is in there?” She glowered at me, pointing at the wall with a chipped ruby hoof. “He buttoned it up tight. He’s got everything in there. The whole facility to himself. Probably his fucking robot, too.”
I meant Horse.
Can’t believe I forgot he wouldn’t have access to an official project anymore...

Speculation time? Speculation time!
Cognitum is Sweetie Bott. Horse locked himself in Redoubt and, well, got really lonely. Really, really lonely. So he started working on Sweetie Bott, trying to make her an actual companion. It worked... sort of. She’s pretty much sentient, just... insane.
I mean, she was a special, limited-edition model as it was. Who knows how special?
He transferred his mind into his “Crusader” mainframe, as Applebloom put it. It didn’t work too well. Sweetie Bott hooked herself into the network, too. Or he did it for her. It hardly matters anymore.
She’s using the resources of redoubt and trying to take over the projects and Horse, having been in the crusader mainframe so long he’s gotten pretty skilled at it, has been working to counter her. He’s not quite as good, having not started off as a computer and having had a corrupted brain transfer to begin with, but... well, it’s something.
With any luck, when it comes right down to it, Blackjack will need to unplug him to take down Sweetie Bott.

...alternatively, Horse is Cognitum and Sweetie Bott is the meddling do-gooder that’s trying to counteract him. It’d work well with Somber’s general theme of bad ponies turning good only AFTER they meet Blackjack.
I don’t really think so, though. Cognitum operates faster than her adversary, as a true-to-form robot would when compared to anything that used to be flesh and blood, and identifies herself as female... I just don’t see even a reformed or mentally-warped Horse confusing his gender, it being such a central part of him for ALL the wrong reasons.

Additionally, I’m guessing she has more in mind than just taking over the world or anything. Something that’s a direct threat to Horse, making his motivations fall less than just preventing her from performing evil. Something like activating Horizons or, at the very least, raising the eater. Horse may not like what he is right now, but that doesn’t mean he wants to die, even at this stage.

“What was there to tell? I was the unwanted product of an egotistical jerk and a mother who didn’t want to be reminded of her past mistakes,” he said grimly as he looked away. “I entered the military because there was no other place for me. There never was. I was the pony who wasn’t there.”
“But you saw-” I began, but then he snapped and threw his hat to the ground.
“Of course I saw!” he snapped, and then laughed bitterly. “I was the pony who saw it all. The good times... the bad times... I called them in. Recorded them down. I saw Big Macintosh die. I called in the medics who took Stonewing away. Watched Jetstream lose it on the battlefield. Saw Doof become a criminal. Vanity eaten up by regret. Twist turn into an emotionally scarred husk. Applesnack consumed by bitterness. Psalm by sin. I watched it all... and I did nothing to stop it!” He spat as he started to pace back and forth.
“I was the witness. The one who knew where the bodies were being buried but who never blew the whistle. The one who overheard all the dirty secrets but was too gutless to bring them to light. The one who knew my friends’ pain but was too cowardly to raise a hoof to help!” As I watched, the sallow white stallion transformed into a buttery yellow one with brown hair in short and shaggy profusion around his shoulders. “Why in Equestria would I want to tell you about Echo? The pony who did nothing while he watched the world explode around him?”
He scooped up his hat and put it back on, reverting back to the Dealer, his lips in a harsh frown. “Smiling Jack was the bitterest, angriest, nastiest pony in the Wasteland, and he was a thousand times better than Echo ever was.”
*immediately sends a request that mech read some or all of this in his dealer voice*

Blaaaaaackjaaaaack, I wouldn’t do that if I were youuuuuuuu...
...
Serves you right for snooping, BJ :P

AND DONE

Kay, so... fun times. Good chapter, very stylish. Laughed a BUNCH!
Not sure what else to say, but clearly there will be lots of speculation coming. Funny that all of the OIA was intending on Partypooper. Horse was just lucky to be made director, I suppose. Short of that, he would have been dead.
Thanks for the good times, Somber and company, and peace out.

P.S.
Oh, and I don’t think I commented on it before, but the fact that Scoots was working with Goldenblood? Very nice. I can’t wait to see the fruits of that partnership...

I wouldn't at all be surprised if she was a high-ranking Shadowbolt. She learned a hard lesson, and I expect true military discipline would mellow her out enough to make a solid fighter.

I really hope you're playing devil's advocate here. First, Dash in no way betrayed Lightning Dust. She didn't go whine to Spitfire and get Dust kicked out -- she resigned in order to remove herself from the situation. The fact that Spitfire came back and did the right thing is immaterial. Dust should have been reprimanded after her stunt on the obstacle course, much less after starting a tornado she couldn't control.

And anyway, the real issue was not the fact that an accident occurred -- the tornado was reckless, but not directly malicious. As you said, the balloon wasn't expected, and a training course is likely to be rough airspace. But Dust showed no remorse at all for causing the accident and displayed a complete lack of concern for the victims. I mean, how would you feel if your car got smashed off the road by a runaway bulldozer, and the guy who lost control just walked up and commented on how fast he took down that condemned house? Sure, he just totaled your car, but you're not hurt, so who cares? It wasn't a one-time thing, either. You see the same behavior on the obstacle course -- she repeatedly put other ponies in danger, but so long as nobody actually got hurt, she just didn't care. She clearly indicated that she would happily keep rolling the dice until she finally did hurt someone.

Sorry I'm taking such issue with this, but I absolutely loved seeing Dash put her principles above her own desires, and I think she was totally in the right. That was my favorite episode for the entire season.

swicked wrote:‘Tokomare’ <-- what the monk does that mean? What’s the base name this pun off from?
A tokamak is a toroidial magnetic bottle, usually used to confine plasma for nuclear fusion research.

swicked wrote:From where? You’re entirely naked and you left your gear... unless they carted it to the table with you, I guess.
Freaking hammer space.
What are you talking about? It's right there in the inventory on her PipBuck. Applebloom

swicked wrote:Green snow, though? I’d of expected black. The ash from the fires, the dust blown into the air... I know balefire burns green but I’m not sure I care for how it’s colorizing this snow.
Not Somber's fault. I was picturing green snow too, though what Scoot actually said was, "Besides, I’m sick of [my PipBuck] clicking. I don’t need it yelling at me that the snow is radioactive and that I’m breathing poison. The air is fucking green..." But the green particulates in the air would presumably precipitate out, so you should end up with green snow eventually.

When Dash first learned she wasn't the leader, she immediately went to Spitfire and said "Why is she the leader? I had the fastest time!"
She may not have actively been trying to sabotage Lightning Dust, but she definitely wanted to be leader instead of her.

Everything I know about Rainbow Dash makes me think she would not forgive Lightning Dust. That she would, like I said, exclude her from ever achieving a position in which she was in charge of the lives of others. Her view of her would forever be tainted by the disregard Lightning seemed to have for Rainbow's friends, and that's what would lock her out of her future.

I imagined it was the radiation. The glow. It's not the particles, it's the rads they are throwing off.
It was a haze and it was the light diffused through the snow that made it green. The snow, itself, was not.

Once it's time to take off the clingfilm, I'll take a picture for all of you.
It's not got a pony as the queen, but it still remains the point of the tattoo and it looks fucking amazing. And it still has Blackjack under it too.

Somber, this is for you.
Well, not just you, but in your honour and as a testament of how much Project Horizons means to me, what it has carried me through and the hope and strength it's given me.

Project Horizons kept me alive and moving during a time when I felt life was otherwise worthless.
Hope for a new chapter gave me incentive not to try hook it each and every day.
It healed my heart during times of ache with the relationship between Blackjack and Glory.
It gave me courage as both Blackjack and P-21 came to have issues with wanting to commit suicide.

On top of this, without Project Horizons I wouldn't have been inspired to write my own story, which is now almost a year old and going strong.
You've given me a lot, this is my way to honour you.
Thank you.

Spoiler:

Yes, I know the queen isn't a pony - that's purely because I felt asking for a pony for the queen would have been awkward as fuck, especially since the original design was a skeleton (tattoo artist drew me a mock up beforehand, put a skeleton in there.)
However, that doesn't change that the tattoo is meant to resemble Blackjacks cutie mark - as well as having her name.

Again, thank you.

Or has it been so long you'd forgotten about it?
...might have forgotten.
I will somehow remember next time, I guess? Pinkie Pie
Actually, are you saying I should do this one again?
Depending on how long 'till the next chapter, I guess I could try that.
After all, beyond one spelling correction, I don't think this one contributed much XD

You are extremely welcome and thank you for the chapter! Like I said in it... I think my favorite part of your writing is when you paint a scene, like when we saw the Tokomare, or both instances of the afterlife, or the prison... just fantastic :D

I know I'm being picky as heck, but Blackjack's eyes in that image... they look too organic. Too soft.

I always imagine her with these somewhat unearthly-looking eyes.

There isn't the typical glossiness that normal ponies eyes have... you know, the little light balls that show they're reflective. I imagine her eyes as being more opaque. They don't reflect because they actually glow.
Her eyes are not glass, more of an enamel, like her legs were. They don't get wet, they are basically like Teflon and naturally slick.

So when you look her in these eyes you don't see your own reflection; you just see her and the glow from within.

Most of Mech's other drawings have had slight lines on the eyes, the irises having... well, mechanical irises around them. Plated and layered sheets that draw more open or closed rather than something organic and elastic that can expand and contract.

I don't think the original description of cyber-Blackjack described her eyes to the level of detail I imagine them, though. XD
