I never thought that scene could be rendered in a way where its more cute then kinky, but here it is. That, and someone actually drew Blackjack with a tiny compact horn.

To be exact you need to occupy a city to prevent that city's inhabitants from messing up your efforts to acquire a strategic resource. We don't typically built cities atop strategic or natural resources because most of the modern ones (Coal, Oil, Natural Gas, Nuclear products) tend to be very nasty to acquire. But you want a city under your control (And a tank can't do pacification duties well but a Russian Terminator BMP variant can) to prevent them from doing things like running off and blowing up your pipelines.

Wow, sixteen?

I do seem to recall them doing some similar stuff, yes. And, yes, it probably is possible for nonphysical exhaustion to be involved here.
They were pulling crazy stuns that involved more than simply flying around very fast, I assume Pegasuses magic. No more limitless than Unicorn magic.

O. Hinds wrote:
Yes, we have rather switched places on this; now you're proposing ways to make the plane exist while I'm giving reasons why it wouldn't.
I just don't know anymore

O. Hinds wrote:
Also, in case this wasn't clear, I'm considering the plane's propellors to be integral parts of the rainboom system; the system actually generates six small rainbooms, one for each blade, and then captures the energy just long enough to blend them together and turn them into a single rainboom for the plane itself. That's how the plane can rainboom without the plane's airspeed passing Mach 1. I'm not sure how the towers work, but I'm assuming that they use something similar. Though perhaps they use a medium with a lower density so that they can run the rotors at lower speeds.
Hmm so some kind of giant mechanical turbine blade setup for the towers which rotate in place to achieve the desired speed then bam Rainboom? Meanwhile the SS is using the existing motion to achieve the required speed then what over-revving whenever a Rainboom is required? Or is it just a simple the plane is flying the unicorn hits a switch and bam rainboom.

O. Hinds wrote:
…Um, it seems to me that you've here if anything strengthened the argument against the plane entering development. If, in addition to the plane likely worsening their situation in the war by existing, a hint of the plane being developed would lead to increased attacks… (Mind you, it might not actually have, if only because Equestria was already doing every non-megaspell thing it could to shut down Profectum, but still.)
Your missing my point, knowing the Zebras are working on a new something at X location is enough justification to blow it up. In modern war the number of weapons often is less than the number of targets. Why bomb a factory that makes the road ties for railroads when you can bomb the factory that makes train engines. One (The engines) are much harder to build requiring equivalently smarter and better trained workers and more specialized equipment which is harder to replace. The Equestiran Army could sit completly ignorate of what a game changer the SS and yet still seek to disrupt it. It could be happy accident with completely bad intel leading the commanders into nameless factory 16 instead of nameless factory 14 which was supposed to contain a new type of battle robot but hey long as you here you need to destroy what you can.

O. Hinds wrote:
I understand your proposal about the lead designer, but I don't think that the designer would get funding for the project.
Simple past success, Zesserschmitt could have built the first functional plane design that was not utter shit against massed wings of battle armor equipped Pegasuses even if it was not 1 for 1 it represented a huge step forward. With such a mark in his favor that gets him lot of leeway in the future. Or Zesserschmitt could have simply known the right zebras to pull on to get funding together to put something together to impress the Caesar. Or it could be a situation like the first civil war ironclads which were literally built with the designers own money on the condition if they were as effective as he said they were then the Navy would buy them from him.

There are literally two dozen real life examples of a screwy project getting made or some crazy science experiment getting authorized.

Like for example this one
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/prmx0lYBTko" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
War budgets are a great thing and design budgets are the most opaque by design so the enemy can't know what your doing. This causes all sorts of odd things to get approved because sometimes the thing in question is just acting as a cover for a much larger more secret project. Something like the SS

O. Hinds wrote:(My explanation, by the way, for why airplanes weren't mentioned there is that airplanes were still somewhat looked down on by Equestria; griffin mercs could take on pegasi 1 to 1, after all, while Zebra fighter planes still needed swarming tactics. Planes also need runways, have more supply requirements, etc.)
Planes are also horribly vulnerable on take off and landing and require their own special fuel source (coal derived fuel) which requires transportation of it's own that needs to be defended.

I'm surprised I found it so soon. I found it on DA while looking for possible fanart for Austraeoh, was using Mech's page as a quick link, saw it in his favorites box. Timestamp said it'd been online for about 18 hours.

That was all good up until the point with the pickles and some of the stuff after that. Then it just got 300% weirder. *shurgs*...But one man's confusion is another man's fetish, I guess.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion

Right, somewhat random, haven't been able to check the forum, so it might say something there but: The link from Equestria daily (granted, is it the "comment thread 3") doesn't go anywhere currently, just says people are not allowed to access it. Really minor thing, but just putting it out there.

Off to chapter reading! Lets see if stuff can work decently, got low expectations, but hoping for the best.
Spoiler:
Well, started off with the old, stupid new BJ quirk. Or well, okay, it did start with BJ being pummelled a bit, but it still had it there. How can really none of the pre-readers think stuff like taht is weird? Or does no-one think of it IC wise? Or constructively? (On a side note, I'm on PMS, and had an argument with someone I thought was intelligent, but turned out not to be, so yeah, expect some more ranting than usual. But erf, really, do question things like that more please? It does not overly fit the world, and especially not IC, at least not from previous shown. (As said, like last time where after being called... a whore I think it was, Psycho's first reaction was to defend Styg's dick, not the fact she got insulted.) erf, but you already know what I am complaining about, need to tune down some of the fanwank and illogicalities. Eh, overall, that whole thing with Styg was handled very poorly imo, bar from the few good pointed out parts, but even those got cluttered with the flaws.) *Cough* Back to reading, but yeah... do try and keep a better eye out for things like that in the future... *shiver* I dread for the assumed return of Wisp, hopefully it can manage to be handled decently at least. (at least try and keep the "out of the arse" pulled personality reactions or traits to a minimum, no more newly added and random shit like the whole "I suddenly feel the need to both over glorify the performance of this random guy that fucked me, and the face he did it, despite stating he only did somewhat okay, and that I never ever before bragged about the performance of my partner up till this point." gah! bad me, stop ranting xD)

Ah yes, mention of Golden and his abuse again, and I forgot what word I ended up calling that... dangit, will have to stick with abuse, ah well. And not sure why, with the last line of the "serious" tirade, I couldn't help but think of her 99 mentality, but that has already been stomped, shattered and mixed with whatever weird fetish or PoV BJ recently acquired, or did a damn good job at hiding till now... or technically it fit along with her new way of thinking, if going "the other way". In either case, I have to try and limited to one comment every 1-2 page. *Snrk* Okay, Scotch to the rescue. I mentally allowed myself to trail OOC with BJ and P-21 singing duet of a slightly altered version of "Motherlover" in front of Scotch, but that is in no way canon nor in the story, so it is allowed in my head xD Anyhow, hum... does that mean each different "duty" in the stable worked in synced shifts? Or have we been over the "cross-class" schedules? And on another side note, I am still going with my "I've seen bigger" running gag with Scotch... though, with the newly added bottom comment outside of the spoiler, it does reduce the joke a bit, unless Somber would somehow go human anatomy for the ponies to increase the effect of male rape.. okay, now I am actually so tired I forgot which terms I used that for... was the gender first indicating the ones doing, or receiving? xD In either case, moving on. ... is it odd if I feel somewhat smug with the mention of Daisy being "too rough"? xP And hum... actually just started to contemplate which would be the biggest sluts in 99, males would ofc get a nice headstart with a "steady" progress of being loose due to it being their job, but mares had less biological hinders, longer lifespans (thought that only increased their possible numbers of different screws, not times per day) but had a "job" to do, depending on their occupation... and now I just trailed off to the teacher banging her students in exchange for raising their grades... if I'd been more awake, I could have figured this out in an hour or so, but now, eh, it doesn't matter anyhow.

And huh, BJ's been with around 40 or so? Guess that is a somewhat ~eh number, going with how she wasn't overly popular. And wait what? Scotch? But you said she is around 7 or so, and it would take her several years to hit puberty? Granted, can't overly be sure of what Scotch meant with it... and granted, children today kinda do "dirty" stuff, it's common, and going with 99, said dirty stuff could likely be upgraded to "filthy". And heck, children can orgasm so... guess it would just be a very strange "game" I guess. And Steam? ... Who was that again... it wasn't the one that got door'd... and I'd like to interject on the whole "as long as" part, they did that too... though granted, might want to spare Glory of that detail heh. And hm... a bit feverish at the moment, but tbh, BJ doesn't seem that far off from what Golden might have done to Shy, bar from that BJ didn't do it on purpose, or well, she did it willingly like him, she just didn't know. And heh, got reminded of that one song, and BJ being a bard now. And come on *srnk* BJ is so sub that even her instrument plays her xD BJ is so bacon however if Dusk is alive, and her marefriend is not, I so call a called shot to the family... jewels. And yay, talking, starting good, going a bit bad a the end, (and a far parts in between) but eh, I expected that. She always brings it up lately now for whatever reason. And um, Whisper was what Golden wanted to name her, Shy was never mentioned at all as to having said anything, so BJ can't state that... okay, she can, going with she'd have bad memory or something, or just assumed Shy wanted anything to do with him after what he did. Or if it was before. Granted, then again, he did do horrible things to her and her friends before too, so eh.

Wait, how did P-21 know whom his father was? Also; "She huffed softy" misspell. A bit kerfused on the whole surrogacy thing, since none of the mane six are related, but eh. And man everyone seems so reckless, Cadance I might get, since she could have gotten one before the war, and she's not really involved in anything. But anyhow, I have to say, Twilight strikes me as the person that does not want a child, more or less the "cold businesswoman" so to speak, if going anything how she was in FoE. And she is far to smart to think a baby would solve her problem, that and knows it would be a retarded idea with the amount of stress she was under, all ministry mares were, something Golden shown clear disrespect for. You could always thrown in that she for some stupid reason wants one or goes crazy again, but overall, if anything she'd possibly adopt. But as said, from all I get of Twi's personality, especially at that stage, is that she doesn't have time for a child, and she knows it. I could see her as more annoyed if anything, knowing she can't have a child due to this war. Since she is way too busy, it would be very bad PR and her body would not really be able to handle it. (again, which Golden didn't give a shit about with Fluttershy, causing her to miscarriage) overall, just keep in mind just because you have a vulva doesn't mean you want to reproduce. There is no "she needs" in this question, just like one of them could have been asexual.

Oh, memory orb, this was a while ago. Hm... not overly sure why Dash would defend Golden, I recall he was supposed to have given her every idea for the MoA, along with almost every other idea ever made in FoE, but he did more shit to them than just Shy if I recall. And that is one heck of a broadcaster BJ managed to get a hold of. And really, I don't see why that one part is milked so much, it was OOC, lame and not even good to start with. Hum, the goddess thing was a bit unexpected though. Very unexpected actually. And wait, what? What Enclave was glory part of? In FoE they silently promoted gay relations since that meant less population most of the time. And on a side note, bar from maybe the first time, Glory has been "in charge" in the bed at least. She's a rather common "sexual switch", sub/dom irl, dom/sub in bed. And hum, Wolverine did that one time, continuously drowned. Daw... more Rampage. And drop a house? Bah, what happened to the boats? And okay, did not expect Cap to come back. This chapter haven't been that bad so far. (though, again, while Charity is amusing really don't see what that other "joke" is being milked) Heh, dragon hoard :P And another one of the quite redeemed..esteemed..renowned? PH moments. Though, was confused why none magicked the things away, seeing with all the stuff previously levitated off in previous chapters. Besides, even if she drown, they have a couple of minutes to try and resuscitate her. So that scene I have to say I found rather derp. Especially with Lac there. Remove Lac, and sure, now it just felt like an excuse to kill a crusader in a semi-bad manor. Sure, it rained, but they've done way more straining stuff in harsher condition. Heck, Lac should be able to have teleported the filly up. So yeah, felt it to be rather lame. They barely did shit, then just gave up. Didn't feel very BJ at all. Would have been more suiting if they failed to bring her back instead. This felt OOC and just dumb, they had the tools to save her, but they just didn't seem to give a shit. I know you wanted to kill someone to add more emphasis to it, but you could have done it way better, this felt lazy and just overall bad. As said, either of above would have worked, or have them dig her up, just to noticed her neck had been snapped or something. Since now she really just died for no reason, with very little initial effort after one fail. (what were they doing out there anyhow? wasn't the main building free?)
->
To me, it about played out as she was dying, BJ was going to give her a potion but drops it on the ground, everyone just goes "oh darn! well, we can't waste another potion, despite having a dozen more. Have to save them for when we need them. And no magic, that'd be cheating, she had her chance, but clearly she wasn't meant to live, BJ dropped that potion after all, we did all we could..." (ESPECIALLY with how they right afterwards, dug her up, then just didn't give two shits about her. It's scenes like this I am talking about. I know you have your "must" things Somber, but try to do them more smoothly or properly, strongly recommend re-doing this scene. Along with a few others, the Psycho/Styg/Batpony encounter included, (and just the Psycho+Styg sex scene) since both those were a bit sloppy, the sex with Styg's body description (since he was somehow pristine clean, while all the gunk would be leaking onto him, yet Psy was coated) and the second one with her not giving a shit about herself, yet always before having been quite to counter insult with injury. It just seems OOC and just fanwanking of Styg, even if she did a record change of her entire personality in 3 days to the opposite of what she was, it would still be fanwanking of him. And especially with the lack of counterpart to it, I see it as even worse, since this is something that is a repeat offence as said, stop doing Kkat's terrible mistake of using our worlds standards.)

Not sure why she couldn't imagine Dash doing that tbh. (And ugh... hate when BJ rambles on about a stupid story part, character acting or what have you. I mean, as said, they literally faffed about, whined, went "there's nothing we can do for her..." then dug her the fuck up right AFTER saying that, then just hustling off with her, I get the impression they wanted her dead. But no, despite putting almost their least effort into it, she is going to bitch and moan about it, like she was helpless. No, she was not, she just did a more or less useless thing, then they bickered about it for a few minutes, then dug her up, not caring to do anything, then buried her. As said, felt like they just wanted to reduce population, and seized the moment.) Hum... having a slight feeling Glory might be a bit sadistic, that, or releasing pent up anger, stress and what have you to get a thrill of total control, should help her let of some steam in that area. And with BJ seeming a tad bit masochistic, it might work out well... bar from if BJ starts doing things to get punished hehe. Overall, I think it worked out kind of good, they did it at a really odd time though imo. And I had expected her to have more or less one sided, or "venting" sex, but eh, it you think it is what Glory would do, it works. As said, don't take advice from how someone else would act if they are nothing like the character. Not overly sure on the whole "Funny, felt like a mare" part, is possibly a bit iffy imo. And wait what, "never though of myself as submissive"... BJ is THE MOST submissive of the entire group, she folds like a stack of cards under almost anyone, is easy to persuade, does as she's told. How the heck can she even think that? I can really think of any instance where she ever tried to stand up for herself or take charge on her own accord. That'd be like she never thought of Stronghoof as noble, P-21 as broody or Glory as nerdy. BJ is almost as sub as one can be, she always wants to take rather than give, or rather follow than lead. Or however to put it. At least from about all shown in "those" social situations.

And *gasp* Glory made Scotch blush/uncomfortable? The tables have turned xD And again with the awful running gag, it's not even funny as it's ooc and bad to start with. Well, hope the majority of the other readers like it at least, with how much you are milking it. And somehow BJ is a noisy one. Though, she is loud overall, so I can accept her making noise. But overall as said, it's not like it's hard at all to be quiet. Btw, a curse you could use is "suck cervix". And yes BJ... offer the newly fillyfied Rampage to tag-team with Glory... that's not creepy at all, especially after she stated the cloest she gets to sex is crying against someone... wonder how long ago it was since Rampage "ironed the curtains"... hum got to know they give them the implants at an early age though if Scotch already has hers, while I do know it's magic, seems a bit risky with the womb still growing at that part. And really? Marriage? She serious? ESPECIALLY looking at how she herself is busy walloping waffles. As for Rampage, she really seems like she's in need of some stress relief+comfort. She far exceeded the "nopony is made of stone" rule you set out as said. And while on the topic in a way, I am actually surprised Rampage hasn't raped someone, or plenty. Just seems like something her pent up anger would lead to at some point in her cycle, since then it'd be the last point for her to prove that none fucks around with Rampage any more, no-one. Though, not overly sure on BJ knowing a memory spell, can't overly see how it would link to her talent, but eh, random magic shiz might work. (and okay, just randomly passed out here, feeling really "ugh" right now...going to sway back and forth till I can go to bed in a few hours, gonna try and finish reading before that then though.) Anyhow, moving on: Found the racism to be very good actually, in the sense it is written I mean. And yay, reversed gender roles for once, albeit for a minor role... oh goddess, I know it is rather racist, but can we PLEASE have a Zebra somehow exposing herself, preferably on accident so Scotch sees, have have Scotch going "I... haven't seen bigger than that..." and yes, as far as I know, this does apply to the few zebra I've seen too xD

Spelling mistake? "And then, there was a trill" What is a trill? And yikes, that was one fucking racist bastard. Would personally have kept a better watch on her, that, and not armed her that heavily. Not overly sure if I like Twist being overpowered though, going with how she'd likely still be more fit than the newbie(?), along with said newbie was also covered in mud, maybe not to the same degree but... (also, don't use "feet", use "hooves" or the metric system, feet or inches make no sense for ponies.) And that was one twisted fuck, makes me wonder how she turned out like that. Doubt Golden had anything to do with it for once however. Also, did Twist not have any armour at all? Also, how could that mare so easily manage to get rid of the rest of the entire squad and get there so much faster? (and how much ammo is in her... heavy Gatling gun or whatever she now is using.) And really? Neck snap? Seems overly kind for what she did, and going with how enrage she ought to be. Though, we got to know that stone somehow seems to be able to bring souls/memories over, at least part of them, if going with it being in a memory orb at all, kinda makes one wonder how the orbs work at all. Lovely cliffhanger though. But yeah, overall, I liked this chapter, it was rather good, which was nice to see. Bar from the huge flaw in it, if fixed, it would be really good.

Also, I lost the post, but what add-ons were recommended for NV? (Can't play Fo3, just keeps crashing)
Oh, and on a side note: I finally got around to looking up on equine anatomy. Noticed they have about all labia internally, will have to re-work my fics a bit later heh. The new ones only I mean.
Well, expect me to reply to all the comments tomorrow or something like that. Gonna go lie down for a while.

A trill is a shrill, whistling, sometimes sort of warbling noise.

They were pulling crazy stuns that involved more than simply flying around very fast, I assume Pegasuses magic. No more limitless than Unicorn magic.
That does appear to be the case.

Reading this post... Well, I suppose that one way of looking at it is that we both ought to be congratulated for arguing our original points so successfully?

We seem to be a bit confused again. I've been assuming that at least a particular part of the generator has to passing through the medium at at least the speed of sound in the medium. In a stationary design, that would one or more rotors, possibly in a tank willed with a material featuring a slower speed of sound. In the SS, the supersonic propellors are used (the plane's airspeed is still less than the speed of sound, however, as the airframe and engines are not actually designed to go supersonic in conventional flight).

It could be happy accident with completely bad intel leading the commanders into nameless factory 16 instead of nameless factory 14 which was supposed to contain a new type of battle robot but hey long as you here you need to destroy what you can.

...So, you're saying that, while they'd try to disrupt it if they knew what it was, they'd also try to disrupt it if they didn't know what it was, and as they'd try to disrupt any Zebra wartime production/R&D? I'm not sure what point you're trying to make by stating that.

Something like the SS
...Huh. That video is certainly a thing. I wonder why the project to teach dolphins to talk by masturbating them got its funding cut? That seems very useful and perfectly sane.

Anyway. Again, deploying the SS would likely be on the whole significantly detrimental to the Zebra war effort (due to inspiring Equestria to invest in point defense and the fact that they'd probably quickly realize "Hm, you know, if we let this fire at longer ranges, we can pretty much kill anything flying on the same side of the horizon as the ship." After that, the Zebras could say goodbye to any hope of maintaining control of the skies.), and, given the cost of the plane, it's unlikely that it would be built without the intention of using it. I suppose that it could be made to work if the cost wasn't understood, but given the whole "the absolutely crucial parts of the thing can't be made without materials we've almost none of" thing, I don't see how mistakes or concealment could lead to that.

Planes also need runways, have more supply requirements, etc.)
Planes are also horribly vulnerable on take off and landing and require their own special fuel source (coal derived fuel) which requires transportation of it's own that needs to be defended.
I was folding the fuel thing into "more supply requirements." But the takeoff and landing thing, yeah, and, of course, when they're on the ground just parked...

You're in luck! By PH canon, Hoofington is northeast of Canterlot. (I say 'by PH canon' because it doesn't actually fit anywhere in the FOE canon map [here]... a symptom of starting PH before Kkat finished her fic.)

WovenTales wrote:Also, and just to figure out how much I should imply in the first chapter, Silver Bell's farm wasn't the same as Pinkie's rock farm, right?
No, it's not. Pinkie's rock farm was probably in or near the Splendid Valley/Rambling Rock Ridge area. Silver Bell's farm is hard against the Canterlot mountain range.

That's closer to where I grew up, and I'd like to set my fic in the Appleachians. Also, and just to figure out how much I should imply in the first chapter, Silver Bell's farm wasn't the same as Pinkie's rock farm, right?
Hoofington is pretty clearly stated to be to the east, actually, and the best information we have on the farm issue is evidence for it being Pinkie's. Though... closer to where you grew up? What? And my map, at least... hm... well, actually, I never named the mountain range the Highlanders live in, and they might be considered separate... I suppose that you could use that. Highlander culture is rather southern Appalachian already, I think (I might be wrong, though). A minor warning, though: it's possible that the Highlanders might consider the name "Appleachians" to be an Equestrian imposition. (My map may put a national border between the two areas... but my expanded version also puts the meridian through Roam. Not that it's actually a Zebra map, but there are some reasonably clear leanings.)
So it sounds like I might even be able to have Littlepip to the west and Blackjack to the north. I'm not sure how much I'll actually use them, but that should be fun. And I think I'll use SilentCarto's theory on the location of the farms; it's far from important as they leave in the (planned) first chapter, but I like the idea of starting at Pinkie's childhood home. And I never actually considered using the Highlanders, but that might be a nice way to fill out the area. It was feeling a bit sparse. As for "closer to where I grew up," I lived in southern Ohio for quite a while (@Ironmonger and anyone else who may know the area: fifteenish minutes east of Mount Orab), but have since moved to Oregon. Going by how Equestria seems to reflect the US, I was hoping to draw some knowledge from the area around where I used to live, though that was admittedly just outside the foothills; the actual range was quite a distance away.

I remember that I started reading PH some time around then, and while saying that that chapter was the first one that actually made me wait after finishing is certainly dramatic/poetic/it's too late, I'm not sure it would be quite accurate. I am glad that I got here before Volume 3 was released, though.
"Black" was posted shortly after midnight on January 22, 2012, per this post.
It sounds like I did start a couple chapters before Black. It was still quite the read. Thanks!

Should have used a female dolphin. Might be just as interested, but would probably be slightly less direct about it.

Or in linguistics, a type of articulation describing a category that includes rolled "r"s, but that seems to be less relevant here.

@O. Hinds: Sorry, no. I draw inspiration from a variety of sources, but mainly use my headcanon understanding of Equestria roughly overlaid on the landscape of the US and tweaked to slightly resemble Hasbro's "official" map. The maps you and SilentCarto made (as well as any I might have forgotten) have allowed me to place the locations relative to each other, but have not affected much beyond the borders of the fics.

I have pictured Canterlot as some sort of central point, with Hoofington being Eastward and Ponyville and Manehattan being Westward. With Puppysmiles' adventure taking her Northwards. The last one makes the least sense because North goes away from any water, which the story ends near, IIRC. So she'd be going South, I guess, which would take her through the Everfree... Which doesn't appear. So around the Everfree. But that also corresponds somewhat to Tenpony Tower's location.

that's why I don't even try to place all this stuff on a map, if I tried my brain would fry from trying to see how all these adventures could be happening and not overlap, well at least most FO:E fics make up their own specific part of equestria off in some corner that was never mentioned in the original, I also dislike fics exploring places that have already been explored, because I love world building
