Thanks a bunch for the review Hinds!

Spoiler:

And you are correct on the rotorwing, mostly. It'll pop up again later, at which point I'll explain it better.

Actually, sorry, but I've just realized that I don't have enough data. What is the city's positional relationship to the river? I assume that it's in a rather low-lying and swampy coastal area, but I don't know whether to put it on the north or south bank.

Hey! Awesome chapter! I suggest you to add more grimdark and violence in your story. And ofcourse more FAILURES. Especially, failures without Shayle's efforts . Or simply because of her stupidity. And make it, please, looks more forced. It's good for story. Let me assure you.
Can't wait next chapter!))))

Actually, both, with the river running through the middle of the city, if at all possible that is. Thanks again Hinds!

No, regolit is serious. He likes grimdark but feels that Shayle is disappointingly stupid and makes some seriously stupid mistakes, I do believe.

CamoBadger wrote:Yeah, maybe I made her a bit too dumb...well shit...
I don't think so.
She's not all that smart, but at least she has some idea of what she's doing most of the time.

minor spoilers:

And I am still happy that Charmer will be around for another chapter.
Also, I actually didn't expect Shayle to shoot the slaver (kind of expected her to let Seer do it or something). And here I thought she was predictable.

So yeah, the chapter was great.

===>I am sorry for my English===>
-Oh damn, ofcourse it's like a sarcasm. Story already contain such amount of grimdark and bad luck, what if 'someone' will add more, story will looks ridiculous.
-Shayle already looks much dumber than Silver Storm... Maybe not dumber, but naive like ...... (I cant swear here like on FimFiction isn't?)))
-Look on other 'true grimdark stories', innocent folks dying there. Yes. But not f....n pointless. It must create an emotional bond between reader and protagonist. (And it works. I hate remnants, and.. almost everything in your story already )))) But PROTAGONIST MUST BE LIKED. ALWAYS. No another way.
-You maybe hear something like 'nature of the hero is failure bla bla bla', this is bullshit. Nature of the hero is always success.
-Story must be INTRESTING and this is the only requirement.
-Trust between reader and writer. Imagine in new chapter of BB, someone catched CW and CS, then rape Cherry to death, and dismember her on eyes of Crimson. I know this will never happen. Because I trust kippy, and I know he understand consequences. Problem is, a lot of autors do not understand their responsibility to the reader, and start to play on the feelings of the reader. When it becomes obvious, people stop to empathize characters. To not be distressed. This is the main problem in writing 'dark' the story. Perhaps you have not seen such stories. But I do read ALL the FoE stories and saw attempts of people, not knowing how to write, to write a 'realistic' stories.
-Reader looking for feels and emotions, not to dip his head in a bucket of feces. "grimdark' providing most strong feels and emotions. And most deep bucket, if you do not know how to write it correctly. So everything depends on the writing skill. Here is fine line that separates a great story and sh.t.
-With time readers starting to love story and characters, and they will defend it, even from writer himself.

Oh what a lovely site) I so love Kippy's avatar)

You can swear here if you wish, I do it quite a bit myself, so I can't say no without being a hypocrite.

And thanks for the wake up call. I was worried that I went a bit overboard on the dark, and it seems I have. Same with Shayle's being stupid.

So it looks like I've got to do a bit of thinking on how to fix this before I can continue. Thanks again Regolit, I'll keep this stuff in mind as I figure out how to keep going.

New Oatleans has been added. I decided to make the river meet the Sea of Equestria at a diagonal so that "the north bank" and "the east bank" can be said interchangeably; I thought that that might make it a bit easier for the map and story to not disagree in the future.

I'll get around to my reviews and reading next chapter soon. Got a lot of housework to smash through first and had other distractions prior. Sorry.

Also, I liked what Regolit had to say personally. I believe he made some good points (and that's not totally because he mentioned me in it, LOL. - okay, a little, but he still had good points.)

Re: Fallout Equestria: All That Remains

Going off memory here, so my review is going to be small and missing out stuff that it'd have if I'd written it as I went, sorry. I'll try do that when I get to reading chapter 6.
The reason I've been made to wait so long is distractions distractions being busy, distractions and blowing a stick of RAM on my PC on my day off.

Anyway, review!

I like how Shayle reluctantly went out of the house for the party, didn't drink because part of her would've still been frightened by her dad with his constant reminders about how not to touch his alcohol and not wanting to be like him, though I do wonder if she would've really passed up the chance for even a sip seeing as she was curious in the first chapter.

The fact that at the end of the night, she turned down the soldier and he accepted it was bizarre but good. He could've easily overpowered her and forced himself inside of her like her father used to do, and it would have made for a powerful statement about how weak Shayle really is in the world that surrounds her - it also would have got her questioning if killing her father and leaving was really ever worth it, which would have been interesting.
Still, to see him take it like a man and accept his misfortune was good.

The next day went well, nothing to really say. I'm curious about the thing that Seer was muttering about but I suppose it was just her way of calming herself so she could make a clean, precise shot without missing the vital target. You handled the fight scenes well, I think.

Moving on over to Shanty burning made me go "awwwh, hell no. I knew that was coming!!" simply because it had been important before, but I didn't expect it to be burnt so soon. That's something I'd expect more of a long term development from, but your choice is your own and I won't question that.

It was obvious to me that it had been Seer who made up the name the very moment she refused to go down into the village, knowing that was the true reason. She was scared of what was going to happen to her if they turned out to be down there.

Nice way of handling Lil Doc when she's first found. Young and impressionable, you did it well. Felix needing to be alone with her to convince her that it's not a case of "all zebras are evil" was good, it worked.
The fact that Charmer felt comfort in seeing Shayle put me sideways though, seeing as the two never were close.
Shayle wasn't around for long and she slaughtered some of the snakes along with her - without having the same kind of respect in her actions.
(Not to say Shayle was disrespectful, just that she wouldn't have had the same bond.)
So yeah, not criticising just mentioning that one.

The fact she was so badly burned is really, really nasty - but in the good way. I just hope you make it take her charisma right down to 2 unless she's around ghouls or something, whom would understand her plight being outcast by the "normals" (aka, smoothcoats) and retain her usual charisma, minus one or two points on lowered self confidence.

The fight with the Rottwood was good, but nothing in particular to say.

I do wonder if there was 'more to it' than simple sex between Seer and what's-his-name.
I'm obliged to believe that he was on the verge of physically forcing himself upon her and that she only gave in and accepted a hard fuck as willingly as she could muster lest she be hurt badly and then fucked all the same.

Lil Doc dying was powerful shit to Felix. I hope he takes a real blow from that in chapter six.

Thanks a bunch for the review Kip!

I understand why you thought it would have been a good element to add with the soldier forcing himself on her like her father used to, and honestly that was the original plan, but I thought about it and having that happen would have done exactly what you said there, but that element couldn't quite show up yet. It will, and it will change her drastically, but for now she still needs some confidence, even if it is misplaced.

You're right, they were never close, but events of the following chapter might help to explain why she was glad to see Shayle.
And yes, she will have some issues with others with her injuries, as soon as the bandages come off that is.

You're right about it being 'more than just sex', but that's all I'll say for now.

Thanks again Kipper! Twilight Sparkle

Spoiler:

Page 1
For a second there, I thought she'd been shot.
Beating her up won't solve your problems, Shayle.
You can't tell if she's lying, nobody can affirm her claims.
Page 2
Stupid honor... Why does it have to involve a lot of killing?
I don't think Shayle knows what "Sympathizer" means. Though I wonder where compassion fits into that equation.
Page 3
Razors. Crazy ones.
Good question. What does he think?
I don't think Charmer blames Shayle.
Page 4
I wonder how much of a fight they were really able to put up.
I'm thinking the Mayor tried to negotiate.
Page 5
I wonder if Shayle can use that gun.
There's her friend. Shame.
At fault is ignorance and politics, not Shayle.
Page 6
Neat, and somewhat odd. Where did the inspiration for that scene come from?
I wonder if this is some sort of turning point for Seer's personality.
Page 7
Eulogies. At least, if I know my words.
A bit of development on a character's past is nice to have, and it is well done in this kind of situation.
Page 8
Neishka was the snake, right?
Page 9
Looks like Shayle can't stay awake enough to detect a friendly approaching, much less an enemy.
How could she tell she was tired from behind?
Heh, good luck to her bullets...
Page 10
I wonder why she's so secretive about the charm.
I hope Seer isn't going to leave or try to kill them.
Stupid mysterious zebra indeed.
Page 11
Looks like Seer didn't run off. Good.
What could possibly go wrong?
*cough*Boomers*cough*
Page 12
Well, without the artillery. Yet.
Yeah, the SRs would probably try to take their equipment. AJRs would probably ask nicely and offer to trade.
Page 13
They may look like robotic ponies, but they bleed and die.
I guess that is true. There are no real pony armies dedicated to pony interests.
Everything wants to kill you. Yippee.
Page 14
One cannot judge a race by the acts of their leaders.
Remnant soldiers can be murderers. We've seen that.
Page 15
Not good.
Page 16
I like it when the "please tell me X" expression is taken literally.
Artillery?
Or a helicopter? I forgot what they were actually called.
Page 17
Just a gunship. Yep.
I'd say it would be significantly less painful to just die outright than to die from being eaten alive.
Page 18
Significantly outgunned, I see.
Good that they will let her stay. Not unexpected that the zebras can't go in.
Page 19
Why do I get the feeling that Xion is going to kill those ponies?
Follower attained. A badly burned flute player that can shoot well.
Page 20
Home is where the heart is.
Good, no killing of guardponies.
Page 21
Eeeevviiiilll.
The element of surprise can be compensation for a lack of numbers.
LEROY...
Page 21
Hrm, I didn't think Seer's rifle was actually automatic.
Suppression fire is limited by rifle-sized magazines...
The most painful way possible, eh?
Hrm, that statement worked pretty well in their favor.
Page 22
Buckshot tends not to simply cut things. She must have been grazed.
It is always the worst case scenario in these stories involving these situations.
Page 23
Felix is more sensitive to violence than the others, as is quite clear.
Well, that was a good use of an hour. Good chapter.

Finally getting to reading chapter seven, some way through it right now.
Haven't really got any comments thus far, though it's not bad.
Just a little past the first break part.

Good character development with the funeral speech of what happy memories Charmer has.

and the image of Charmer holding Felix is cute.

reading on...

GHOULS...
Ghouls galore..
Got ghoul problems? Call Crimson Wings' Ghoul Removal Service for 100% guaranteed ghoul extermination! No ghoul left alive!
If you aren't satisfied with the job done, you can speak to one of the many attendants at the Tank Mercenary Group outpost located in Coltshire Commons or the headquarters in Four Ridges.
Remember! Ghouls be gone with Crimson Wings' Ghoul Removal Service!

(LOL I'm sorry! Ghouls...)

", but I suppose a mob of flesh-eating monsters had that effect on everyone."

-whispers- Crimson Wings' Ghoul Removal Services promises no-one takes one step back. Do or die!

How could Shayle be so stupid as to honestly believe for even a moment that Charmer would want to be left alone at a time like this?
Of course she doesn't want to be alone! Especially not in a place she only knows the name of!

Good chapter over-all.
Execution was good to see, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is willing to write that stuff. Blackjack and LP (Blackjack more-so) annoyed me so bad with the constant forgiveness.
Good chapter. Sorry I don't have much to say.

Hah, glad you aren't annoyed with that!
I had Crimson in my head SCREAMING at me while I was reading that; that he wanted to be in there and kicking ass.
So when he said that, I laughed and had to write it down.

(Yes... he's become something akin to a tulpa now, without actually being one.)

Well, Chapter 8 is finally done and updated both here and on FiMFiction. As always, I did my absolute best to take all of the feedback I was given into account and apply it without messing up the story, and I really hope that it's getting better as opposed to worse.

I hope you guys still enjoy it, and thanks for reading!

Spoiler:
The changes of point of view to Felix threw me a bit at first and still feel a bit odd (used as I am to the story being told in first person from Shayle's perspective), but I think that they work.

"The looming city of New Oatleans was directly east of our little camp"
Hm…
"“If you seek a home, travel to Caesar’s Stand.” He pointed a hoof toward the towers in the south. Me and Felix both looked at the towers briefly before turning back to the soldiers. “Not the towers, that place is unfriendly for wanderers. The place you seek is nearer to us.”"
Okay, so, according to this and other evidence, Caesar's Stand is due north of New Oatleans. However, Shayle and the others camped somewhere due east… with no mention of a river crossing. So you want the river to be flowing northeast through the city? Shoot… I'll have to redo my map again, assuming that I can still find a way to make it work at all. Or have I spotted something you forgot to add? Whatever the case, I'd appreciate hearing from you on this. marked as important, at least to me

"A grinding sound that almost blocked out the sound of the siren filled my ears as the big thing moved forward a foot or two and began to roll sideways."
Hey, a Fo1/2-style Stable vault door! Of course, I can't just pass over it; now that we know that different designs exist, we must know why! Now, in Fo, the Mojave and DC vault doors were in an older and presumably inferior style (though it does rather make more sense to me to put the opening machinery inside, it would be harder to blast through a door that opens outward). Stable 2's door is of the inward-moving style, though, and I assume that Apple Bloom used the best available for it. The only possibility that springs to mind at the moment is that here we see the same old/new difference as in the games but with reversed temporal positions (we do know that the design was not identical across space and time, as the demonstration Stable's door had hinges; that was, granted, a mockup, but it still might have represented an early design). If that's the case, it would make this Stable one of the oldest ones. Or the change in design could be for some entirely different reason. So many questions…

I can't really avoid comparing your portrayal of the Remnant (which is, as far as I'm aware, currently the most detailed available) with the Miliozi, and, interestingly, I think Caesar's Stand is freer than Masozi. What makes this sort of comparison really fascinating for me is how much the Miliozi and Remnant hate each other; this is an insight into the "other" side of their lukewarm (not cold due to being a declared and extant war, but not hot because neither side is, at least at this point in time, actively attacking the other) war. I know, due to the Miliozi being my headcanon, that you didn't intend it like this, but you're providing me with with something like a work following German soldiers in WWII; sure, the leadership is terrible and some of the soldiers have done really nasty things, but most of the people, even in the military, are just ordinary, rather nice individuals trying to get on with their lives (I'm reminded of a book called Hitler's War, which does not have its own TVTropes page at the moment and is apparently the first in a series). It's quite an interesting feeling, really.
(I hypothesize that I don't get this feeling from stories of... the Great War? The Twenty Years War? What shall history call it once it is no longer enough to just say "the war", I wonder... Anyway, I hypothesize that I don't get these feelings from that conflict because I'm already so used to thinking on both sides; while I personally sympathize more with the Pax Roamana, there is such a tremendously larger volume of material on Equestria.)
Anyway, thanks, even if this particular bit of quality is accidental.

So i sat down and finished All That Remains, i just have a few questions about the latest chapter.

Spoiler:
Do Seer and Charmer want Shayle dead? Because pushing her, a young filly, into then leaving her in the tunnel of bloodcurdling screams with no armor and a .22 pistol seems like a great guilt free way to do it.

Both could have their reasons, Charmer because she might act nice because she's trying to bee a 'good pony' and because young fillies and colts can do no wrong but deep down still blames her for Shanty burning down.

Seer could want to kill her for, asking the wrong question, not focusing or for crazy zebra bad dream vision bullshit

And Felix is getting treated pretty well by members of the opposing sex when does he get the mare killer perk?

Finally for a fallout fic I'm kinda wondering why there isn't much scavenging going on.

Spoiler:

@River: Don't worry, you don't need to change anything, I actually did forget to add that detail. Thanks a bunch for pointing that out for me!

@Stable Door: Yeah, the reason for how it opened is 2 parts.
1) I've always thought that the doors opening outward and rolling were much more pleasing and 'vault' feeling in my own mind, as well as the cog shape making much more sense if it rolled rather than swinging open. I always thought that if it opened outward, that would mean it has less of a chance of being blown inward by a shock wave possibly overpowering the mechanisms, so in part it was just personal preference, but...
2) It is an older Stable. I'll talk about it more in upcoming chapters, but for now just knowing it's an older design is the most important aspect.
It's more of 1 than 2 though.

@Remnant: That is how I really wanted to portray them. Reading Project Horizons, I always had a hard time believing that every Remnant soldier had the same mindset toward ponies and everything in general. I know it seems hard to believe that I of all people think that even in groups that seem like they're all 'evil' and are portrayed as such have those who just get wrapped under the negative wrapping despite possibly being very good people (or zebras in this case), but I do believe that not everyone in a group believes the same, even if they claim to hold the beliefs and perspective of the group at large. So I tried to show this in my story; that even if the Remnant as a whole seems bent on continuing a pointless and long-since-ended war, there are those who either had little to no choice in working with them, or they may believe in the cause, but not the means that the command is using to keep it.
And I found your post on the Miliozi. It's a very interesting idea, and I personally like it. I wish I knew more about it. And it is a little close to my show of the Remnant, since they are a 'little' different and less... fanatical, from those we've seen around Hoofington and I'll bring that up at some point.

Lastly, thanks a bunch for the review, I hope I didn't miss anything in this, and if I did please feel free to ask more questions about anything in the story. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far, and I hope that I keep putting out a good story.

Spoiler:

No, they don't want her dead. They legitimately wanted to help that pony, and Shayle did stick herself in there, they just gave her the push she needed to get the rest of the way in.

I didn't plan on Felix taking that, they just tend to get closer to him because he's young and much more friendly than his sister or Seer.

Yeah, not much scavenging, but that's mostly because Shayle never even considers taking anything she isn't told to get. She's special like that.

And thanks for the questions, I hope I answered them adequately.

Oh, glad I was able to help! Will you be posting a notification when the fix has been added?

I look forward to learning more.

Which post was that, and is there anything in particular that you'd like to know?
Based on what I know of the Remnant's operations in Hoofington, I think it makes sense that that would be where the most dedicated and skilled soldiers go.

Based on what I know of the Remnant's operations in Hoofington, I think it makes sense that that would be where the most dedicated and skilled soldiers go.
Yup, it's been edited and should be good to go. It's not exactly a huge edit, just a few new sentences, but it at least hints at a river. For right now, it's a dried up bed where the river used to be, and even though it connects to the ocean and so should still be there, I'll be addressing that later. Chrysalis

Dunno, I think I'd like to know more about the city you mentioned, Masozi?
And yes, that's basically what I was going with for the Remnant (not that I have any decision in any of this since Somber created it, I just hope I don't mess up his idea of them Shy ), that the Hoofington area is a high-profile mission where they send only their best and most loyal to operate. Those in New Oatleans are more of the 'regular' army as opposed to Lancer and the others up north, and so they don't seem as fanatical and, honestly, insane for the most part. Hopefully this doesn't break away from Somber's canon for the Remnant, because I've really been trying to stay within his description of them.
