Assassinating Celestia is actually something Slight wouldn't try to do, at least not at the moment. See, Celestia is Luna's sister in Slight's mind, which means she is a god to Slight. An evil, depraved, sniveling rodent of a god, but divinity nonetheless. To Slight the idea of a mortal trying to slay Celestia is just a stones throw form being as ridiculous as someone trying to slay Luna.

Of course, Luna did just get banished, so that kinda rends a giant gaping hole in Slight's worldview which will eventually scab over and scar into something... that I don't want to spoil.

Yeah, Dream Pheonix did those. He PM'd me one day asking about the characters, and wanting more detailed descriptions. I love how he's interpreted them, in particular Song looks like exactly what I had in mind.

I imagined Song as actually being kinda runt-y. She peaks out from behind a pegasus guard, IIRC, so though she was actually fairly small, even for a unicorn. At least enough to be concealed entirely just by standing right behind a pegasus... even to a pony that was a taller than said pegasus and so should be able to see beyond him fairly well.
All the more to contrast with Slight, who I always thought of as kinda stocky. Not Big Mac-level, but still noticeably thicker than other ponies and a bit taller, as I said.
Thus, when Song was pleading for her life, she looked all the more like a child cowering before Slight, which helped sway her.
But my mind kinda gets ahead of me for scenes like that...

Um... You got your imagery pretty much spot on there. I was aiming for Summer to come across as childish, being both shorter and smaller in frame than Slight, who is tall and kinda stocky, but... you sure she doesn't look childish in that pic? She looks that way to me is all.

Slight just looks really, really thin in that picture. Not stocky at all (well, except her legs are a fair amount thicker than Song's, but I'm talking about around her barrel).
Song's legs look really long, to me. I would have also thought she'd have a bit more of a rounded, childish face compared to Slight's, which would be a bit more angular and rough.
Plus, you put those two pictures next to each other, they are very nearly the same size with Slight only having a slightly longer neck. I mean, there's nothing to indicate these pictures are meant to scale with each other, but I would have expected... well, more runt-ish proportions if Song was meant to be depicted as significantly shorter than Slight. Essentially roughly as much shorter than an average guard pony than Slight is taller, since that would allow her to all but disappear behind one.

It's a little odd to think these were drawn at the same time, too, given Slight's down one ear when she meets Song, but that's really just artistic license.

I'm not particularly in the habit of critiquing art; you just said they looked perfect and matched the detailed descriptions you gave the artist so I couldn't help but remark on the ways they conflicted with the images in my head.

I guess I just got over excited by the fact that someone drew fan art for me, and didn't look at it too discerningly. Now that you've pointed it out, it does seem glaringly obvious.

I've been trying to put my own reaction into words, and I couldn't find any. So, I'll just go with your version.

When I wrote the transformation scene, my intention was for it to be creepy, but sorta arousing at the same time. I always try my best to keep the reader firmly rooted in Slight's mind and thoughts, and so even if you don't agree with her, how she thinks and sees things will hopefully affect how you think and see things as well. The transformation scene was the really tricky in that regard, because I had to try and make something as repulsive as having your teeth and skin ripped off seem exciting. It took a few re-writes to get it to work.

So no Solar Tyrant? This will be interesting to see how much he changes the roles. Will they still be the same species? Don't think Hasbro has domination over EP-Pegasi-Unicorn-Alicorns, but I guess parallels would be too close for comfort.

Main plot points I'm guessing stay the same:
Two sides of a war (NMM War), lost leader (Lulu) and best friend (can't remember her name of the top of my head at the moment), vengeance against enemies, assasination of generals (Conviction!EoH). And rediscovery of purpose possibly?
