Finished stuff up while at work. I must say, I love how she took out Pyra. Well played.

So who thinks the Blacksmith is going to be Slight's dad? I mean they probably won't meet, but does any else have that feeling?

Understandable, it's been a while since they mentioned Hoofens and it's not like Slight would really remember anyways. Though I'm not sure how that would work, it's not like she remembers her parents, maybe they'll recognize Chase? If they see either of them that is.

Eh, I don't see it likely that they would recognize Chase, but it could happen. And yeah, I don't think Slight will remember her parents.

I know I've already said this, but the slaughter was just so impactful it amazes me.
There were so many potential heroes.
The hopefull upstart that Slight was going to wrestle right before the sun rose.
The grizzled old war hero.
The defeated rival of Slight's, despirate to prove himself again.
The first of the class, her oldest rival and smartest of their number.

None more that Stygus, the twisted leader. We don't know what pony he used to be, but his present state was a nightmare. He had the chance, outside Luna's influence, to be the hero he either once was or was simply thought to be. To fight for his fellow pony on his own terms!
But no, instead he finally dies against an undefeatable opponent, an ignoble sacrifice not signifigantly different from those of the dozens of other potential heroes. A waste.

It's just beautiful...

...though I guess there's a sort of irony to be found. One of the celestians stated "wounds from those things kill". Pyra was wounded in battle by one of them and that is the only reason Slight got the opportunity to kill her.

Well, just finished chappy 4.

That transformation scene was really unsanitary. It really strikes me as something you want a licensed physician either conducting or overseeing, especially when it comes to the wings. Plus, it's probably not wise to be breaking ribs before you go yankin' wings outta folks anyway. The HR department there has to be completely complacent.

And now, in chapter 5, that one-eyed raven is clearly Odin or some shit. It's at least symbolic.

I mean, Odin is associated with ravens, known to shapeshift into many forms (including various animals), and missing his right eye (even when he shapeshifts)

It would have been slightly less obvious for the raven to walk right up and say "Hi, I'm Odin."

...doesn't she act like it's unfamiliar to her, though?

Best guess I have is for it to be some kind of chekhov's carrier pidgeon. They get a letter being carried by it and know it must have come from Blackrock.

In any case, it's unfortunate you disliked chapter four's super sexy transformation sequence no jutsu, frost. Am I the only one who loved it?

It is unfamiliar to her now, but we were thinking that later it would be like a pet or a guide for her and Chase.

I didn't mind the transformation, not my thing and kinda uncomfortable but it wasn't bad.

...well, it already worked once and Chase isn't the type to take any unneccessary risks.
A lot will already be barring their way to getting in place for casting the ritual in the first place.
Even if it doesn't do what they expect, it will definitely do something epic that advances the plot... perhaps even unveals the plot for the second half of the story.

So no, I don't expect any sort of abject failure.

Or they find a howling mad goddess already losing ground to the real Luna, who is now crushingly depressed and caught somewhere between despair and remorse. Goldie Song Slight and Chase might just turn themselves in in utter despair.

Though that wouldn't be very fun to read

Oh I fully expect, should they manage to contact Luna, that she will be amazingly unhelpful.
But I don't consider that a failure. They'd of contacted her, they just wouldn't learn from her what to do next.
