Very true, at least I enjoyed it since it's got a superior workbench system plus hardcore mode, plus an ending that didn't need DLC to stand up right. The severed head is for Camp McCarren & the Brain is for The Kings in Freeside. I still don't know how to finish that radio tower quest, maybe it's glitched shut.

The only thing about New Vegas I missed from Fallout 3 was the random encounters.

Yeah, the heads are for 3 Card Bounty at Camp McCarren like Dark said, and the Brian is for fixing Rex.

You know, Cass is the reason I don't use drugs aside from Mentats in New Vegas anymore. I had downed nearly everything I had in my inventory when I ran into the Silver Rush because I had finished Cass' companion quest in a way that didn't require killing them but they attacked me.

Anyways, once I was done with that slaughter I turned to Cass, where she chewed me out for being high and didn't want me to become a junkie.

As for random encounters and New Vegas, yeah there's non programed in the game like they are in 3, but that just makes the really random stuff from leaving an impact.

I had just exited Broc Flower Cave, my new Ratslayer in hand. All of a sudden I hear gunfire. Expecting to see the three random NCR troops fighting the three random Legionaries that usually spawn in the same area, I was instead greeted by a female prospector running for her life. Not far behind was the three Legionaries. Since this was my "try to be nice to the Legion" playthrough I didn't step in and just watched.
One of the Legion guys literally shot the prospector's gun out of her hands, picked it up and killed her with is as she cowered next a rock. In order to not lose standing in the Legion, I followed the three bastards taking sneak attack head shots.

I'm not a fan of the Legion, never have been since I first started playing the game, the slaving bastards. But that right there, that truly random event that will probably never happened again, pretty much killed my "be nice to the Legion" game and any attempt of me trying a Legion ending for a good long while.

My lucky guess it's either Black mountain radio or series of quests for NCR and their radio posts. One, with messed up reports.

I wouldn't think so, I finished both of those easily.
There's a mission at NCR home base regarding a mystery of someone sneaking into the radio tower to relay information to the legion that I haven't followed up on, so I was wondering if it was that.

Ears as equivalents of NCR dogtags. I don't remember, but somewhere in camp McCarren you can exchange them for caps.

I don't know if I ever did the quest right about the Legion spy in Camp McCarren. I usually end up waiting by the radio tower till 1 AM in game and hoping he just spawns in there.

Now you could
A. just listen to his plans and quickly leave to disarm the bomb on the tram before reporting in.
B. Confront the spy, kill him, quickly disarm the bomb on the tram and report it all.
C. Just listen and/or confront the spy, report in and see if you can disarm the bomb before the tram leaves.

So far I find option B to be the best one. I'm sure A works as well, but the main point is to go disarm the bomb before reporting what you find in. If you report your findings before doing that, the tram is just likely to leave with the bomb and blow up.

Also, I can't remember if they fixed it, but it's better that you don't talk to anybody once you find out somebody has been sneaking into the Radio Tower. I say "fix" because the quest use to send you directly to the spy before you found out they was the spy, and because you didn't know they was the spy you could fail the quest by saying "I know the spy has been going into the radio tower at night."

I'm being vague to try to prevent spoiling who the spy is.

Oh, maybe I sabotaged myself from that quest since I couldn't keep my mouth shut lol. It's hard for me to support Legion-win since I'm part of the Yes-man master race. I'll probably do NCR and House endings first before I stoop to helping out Caesar. What color is your Pipboy screen? I use the blue.

I stick with that dusty faded yellow and amber. Blue is alright but there's something about the yellow I like on the pipboy.

You hero-types are silly :P

What's the yes-man master race? Or would that be a spoiler?
I guess I'll try exploring that camp more for the ear and head exchange. Sounds like a hoot.
Guy: yeah, so, bring in heads or ears to confirm your kills.
Me: oh, no problem, have the lot right here.
Guy: you just walk around with your enemies' heads and ears?
Me: well yeah, how else am I gonna remember how many I've killed?

But seriously, I feel like the predator.

So, the radio spy's setting them up the bomb? What could the "right way" to catch him be?
I still haven't tried, yet.

I just can't help it swicked. I'm just drawn to "the light side" in games like this. I don't go "I'm going to play a nice guy" when I play these games, I just usually am. With some exceptions like stealing and maybe some undue deaths.

On the other hand I have to make a conscious choice of "I'm just going to be an evil asshole."

Though you have to admit, of the 4 choices the game gives you, there's three different shades of gray that's up to you to pick which one is the lightest( or more interesting) and then there's the Legion which is a really dark gray if not black. It doesn't help that no matter what you do during the game, a Legion ending is pretty much summed up by "And the Legion came in and fucked everybody up. Killing a bunch and enslaving the rest. The only exceptions being the Followers cause Caesar was all "I use to be with them, let them go cause they're alright."

This.

It also help that doing the Good Thing in general is also the choice that pay the most, if maybe not in term of caps.

See, while I don't really get off on being a blatant, petty jerk, I love to endulge in revenge, clever manipulation, blatant torture and the cruelest forms of irony. I like reverse-pickpocketing the homeless. I like abusing npc's respect, doing bad things for bad people just to get close-enough to cave their faces in. Really, that's the best option. Harvesting those quests until they are barren, then scorching the earth at the very last second... well, if it can be done in an interesting way. No fun to just empty the wasteland, after all.
I like being the stuff of nightmares, giving with one hand and mutilating with the other. I like to glorify it.
So while I help the ncr in general, I hurt as many of them individually as I can. I figure out who's stealing drugs, blackmail, steal the rest of the drugs and turn him in anyway.
With that radio tower one, I might just turn in the spy after he or she's blown up the metro, whether or not it fails the mission.
There's little more satisfying than that :P

In short, my friends, I am a villain. Chrysalis

Kay, so, I avoided the main quest for long-enough, gotta figure out how to address Benny.
I don't really want to just shoot him in the head since just doing back to him what he did to me is way too boring.
I remember a fallout NV vid from a long time ago where he ended up captured by the legion, or he ended up crucified, or... something. Does that happen if I agree do work for him?

You know, there's something alluring about planning a coup of a coup. I wonder if there's an actual name for that...

...and yet, on the other side of the game-sphere, I hate those Boomers and have no idea how to get to them on surface. Looking for a lockpick manual to be able to get into the tunnel.

...but how weird is it that there's a settlement of teenaged descendants from little lamplight within spitting distance of the boomer's no-man's land? How did they get there? And how did they end up with such great weaponry yet such terrible armor?

In any case, found Yes-Man, roughly know what I'm doing, hoping sparing the steel rangers is a good plan for my inevitable victory over everyone, and enjoying the fact that I'm likely the only one on this forum without a clue as to what is going to happen next!

Is no one reading this topic?
I shall guess that, perhaps, no one is reading this topic.

Just successfully got the boomers to agree to fire on anyone I want, then got brownie points with both NRC and Caesar when they each assumed I was on their sides. Afterwards, I found the redhead that techie boomer liked and told her she was totally clear for running into their territory. It's just so deliciously tragic <3
Blew up the space ghouls, too. Also fun.
I now have three severed raiders heads and no idea what to do with them. I've been looking everywhere but the internet so far.
Now that I've successfully restored the Brotherhood, trying to think of how to set the base to self-destruct without getting my butt handed to me on the way back out. For all their positives and my being one of their number, I don't see them happy with house robots everywhere. Plus, I've actually made them a viable threat, now.
I also now have this brotherhood girl as a follower. I cannot imagine how she will respond when I kill them all...
I really need to find the rest of the followers in the game, btw.
Additionally, I need to figure out how to get some boomer power armor without making war with them. Kinda need them for the fight and all, but that armor looks awesome and I want it.

Oh, and following some recent developments NCR troopers seem to randomly attack me at times due to my "mixed" reputation with them. Yet the great khans had no problem with me running around their bases all "vilified" until I got them to run away like the massive pansies they are. I seriously dislike NCR...

I loved ending Cassie's girl's plotline via bullets to the head of the crimson caravan's face. She gave me a nice speech afterward, too. Sucks massively I didn't get to literally feed the woman her own hair, but oh well. My status was high enough I'm now a grinning punk or something, so no harm no foul.

Out of curiosity, how does playing for the Legion's side work when you're female?

Well, my latest completed playthrough was a female, Good Natured, positive-karma-ed Legion character (I wanted a roleplaying challenge). She specialized in unarmed weapons and had high intelligence and skills (she took care of Caesar's brain tumor personally). I had her viewing the NCR as ineffective and not of pure intentions, as she was from New Reno. What got her to side with the Legion, though, was that I did Old World Blues the first time I passed through Nipton. She basically came out of that the cyborg queen of Big Mountain, and that and her further exploits gave her the confidence to think that she could use the Legion's dictatorial nature to, eventually, make a better world.

My current playthrough (after I put on hold the Independent playthrough that I started after the Legion one... my attempts at playing male Couriers always seem to run into problems) is a bad-karma House using a stealth suit mod. My character isn't bloodthirsty, really, she just... doesn't see much of a problem with killing people to get the job done (she's got a soft spot for robots, though). And the job is now working for Mr. House. Except for my first Legion playthrough (the abovementioned one was my second, and the first was using an ARGH EVIL BLOOD KILL MURDER EVIL! character just to see what the Legion route was like), I think that this is the first time I've wiped out the Boomers instead of befriending them (my character judged them a potential threat to Mr. House's interests).

I have tried to, but I just can't get into a RP with Fallout and keep character. I always revert to becoming the goody-two-shoes (with occasional fits of kleptomania) because that's what gives you the best equipment for the least effort.

Well, to be fair, every Fallout game suffer of the same problem.

In the end the most gratifying thing is to more or less unwittingly end as "King / Queen of the Wasteland", ala BlackJack, with every major faction being into so much debt toward you you just end up owning the place.

I ended up killing Benny in a nice semi-painless way. Tied up the the legion, he was so helpful and forthcoming about his plan I decided to arrange his execution to be performed via two shots to the head by my concealed .22 no one cared I had for some reason. It seemed appropriate.
I'm really too nice.
I'd rather to of killed him on my own terms, but I guess I forfeited that when I let him get away from the tops.

I would have if that didn't seem so generic. Two bullets to the skull seemed more poetic. Next play-through, definitely.
Besides, again, he was very helpful and supportive of my plans at the end, my standing in and taking over where he failed, and gave a lot of advice without ever asking forgiveness. I like the fact that he didn't even attempt to repent, not that I'd ever spare him.
He gave up some hair-brained scheme about stealthboys and escaping, but given my past with him, it was pretty clear he'd of just left me holding the bag... so I gave him roughly the same chance at life he gave me, which is to say, none at all :)
